Cruel Wolves and Devious Deceptions by Danielle Annett

Desmond Pierce is a wolf above Alphas.
Good looking, arrogant, and hunter-born.

Cruel Wolves and Devious Deceptions, an all-new brother’s best friend paranormal romance from Danielle Annett, is available now!

He also happens to be my brother’s best friend.
If coming from different clans wasn’t reason enough to stay away from him, his connection to my brother is.
But every time we’re in the same room, he needles his way under my skin, demanding my attention and making the tigress in me rise up in challenge.

I hate him
He hates me.
But when the unthinkable happens, I start to wonder if hate is enough to keep our attraction to one another at bay.

**Disclaimer** Cruel Wolves and Devious Deceptions was originally published as Cruel Devil, a contemporary romance novel under Danielle's other pen name. The series has been re-imaged at the request of her paranormal readers. It is 15,000+ words longer than the contemporary version and can be read as a stand alone.

Aria Naveed can't decide what's worse--being mate-bonded to Declan Valkenaar, the Alpha of the Pacific Northwest Pack, or owning up to the fact that she's developing feelings for him.

Excerpt

  • “Aria, you’re being unreasonable." He took a step forward and reached out for me.
I sidestepped away, then put a hand on my forehead when the room began spinning.
“Unreasonable?” I ground it, “You asked men within the Pack to court me. You
wanted to tie me to the Pack so you could use me.” I was practically yelling at him now.
Maybe I wasn’t too tired to fight with him after all. This confrontation had been a long
    time coming.
“That was before …” he trailed off.
“Right,” I scoffed. “Before you bit me and tied me to you. Before you decided this
little mate bond between us somehow made me your soul mate. Now you care about me
as a person, is that it? But before I was just a tool for you to use and somehow I should be
okay with it? I should be flattered that Declan Valkenaar, Alpha to the Pacific Northwest
Pack, has picked me to be his mate? Is that what you’re telling me?”
I blinked hard as tears threatened to spill. Dammit, why did he have such an effect
on me? I rubbed the ache in my chest and turned away from him.
He didn’t say anything for several long minutes.
I climbed into my bed and tucked myself under the covers as silent tears spilled
    down my cheeks.
The mattress dipped, and Declan slid into the bed beside me.
    “Go away, I choked out.
He wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled my back flush against his chest.
    “I’m a bastard.”
    “I know.
    “And I don’t deserve you.”
    “Glad you’re finally realizing that.”
I swiped at the tears on my cheeks and tried to pull away from him, but his grip was
    iron tight.
    “But I love you.”
    I sucked in a breath. He—what?
I froze, suddenly unable to form any coherent thoughts or words.
He didn’t say anything else, just settled in beside me with his arm wrapped tightly
  • around my body and his legs now tangled with mine. I listened as his breathing slowly
evened out and realized the exact moment when he fell asleep.
Declan told me he loved me. The bond that connected us flared to life at his words, and I
    suddenly realized, I believed him.

Branded by Fire (Blood & Magic # 4) by Danielle Annett Reveiw

Branded by Fire: A Paranormal Urban Fantasy Series (Blood & Magic Book 4)Branded by Fire: A Paranormal Urban Fantasy Series by Danielle Annett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Danielle Annett’s BRANDED BY FIRE is scorching hot. The story takes place following book three, BURNED BY FIRE. After nearly dying, Aria Naveed was mate bonded to Pacific Northwest Pack Alpha, Declan Valkenaar. She is struggling to control her powers after being experimented on by H.A.C. (HUMAN ALLIANCE CORPORATION), while trying to avoid the catastrophic outcome of her prophecy. This PNR is suitable for adult readers.

Danielle Annett continues to do an amazing job with her character development and plot. The characters have grown and overcome numerous obstacles. I like that the story is told from both Aria’s and Declan’s point of view. I appreciate how their relationship evolved. There is some interesting tension with Inarus. My heart went out to Aria and everything she endured, especially with her mother.

BURNED BY FIRE was fast-paced and exciting throughout. There were fascinating twists with unexpected outcomes. My only complaint about this book is that it ended. I enjoy this story so much I wanted it to keep going. Needless to say, I am anxiously awaiting book five. I love this series. I would compare it to Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series and Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Burned by Fire (Blood & Magic #3) by Danielle Annett Review

Burned by Fire (Blood & Magic #3)Burned by Fire by Danielle Annett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Danielle Annett’s BURNED BY FIRE takes place following book 2, KISSED BY FIRE. Aria Naveed is hired to find a witchling child. She soon discovers that she is being held by the Human Alliance Corporation (HAC) and needs to be rescued. Simultaneously, she is dealing with her mating to Alpha, Declan Valkenaar, and pack issues. This urban fantasy is suitable for adults.

Danielle Annett continues to do a great job with her character development. Aria persists in growing her powers. She is also struggling with her unwanted mating to Declan. She is attracted to him but doesn’t know if it is because of the bond. She discovers some disturbing news that she is unsure of how to handle.

In the prior books, I didn’t trust Declan. My opinion of him has changed. I do like him and think his feelings for Aria are genuine. Being the Alpha of the Pacific Northwest Pack he has a lot of responsibility and a stressful job. Aria is adding to his stress.

I like that Aria hires Inarus as a mercenary. He ends up becoming a good friend to her. Furthermore, being a fellow psyker he is an excellent resource.

HAC makes an interesting opponent. Aiden can be a brutal individual. There were many interesting scenes with him, especially at the end of this story.

BURNED BY FIRE has an excellent plot. The novel is exciting from beginning to end. Danielle Annett does a great job of including information from the previous stories. I love the ending and cannot wait to find out what happens in the next book. If you haven’t read the previous books, I recommend starting with book one, CURSED BY FIRE, to become more invested in the series.

EXCERPT:

I trudged up the stairs to my apartment and wiped wet tendrils from my face. Water sloshed in my boots, a reminder of today’s most recent adventure. I’d had the pleasure of bodyguard duty for a water nymph, which was no easy task given that, in her eyes, I was a glorified babysitter, and we happened to be staying in a cabin that was mere feet from the Spokane River. It was the middle of January, and I’d taken the polar bear plunge more than once today. I was chilled to the bone, wet, hungry, and I sorely needed a good cup of coffee, or three.
Only one more flight of stairs to go. I could already taste the coffee on my tongue and feel the hot spray of a warm shower against my skin.
As my apartment door came into view, the hairs on the back of my neck rose and my body went on high alert. Something was off, and dammit, wasn’t that just my luck. I stood in the hall, a chilling breeze whipping my wet hair around my face from the open balcony doors and stinging my cheeks. Shit, it was cold.
I narrowed my gaze. Why were the balcony doors open in the middle of winter? It was like a blizzard out there. I stepped closer toward the balcony, intending to shut the doors, when a splash of red to my left caught my attention instead. There was blood on the doorknob leading into my apartment. This couldn’t be good.
I took a deep breath and debated just turning around. I was too tired to deal with anything else today. Was it too much to ask for some dry clothes and a hot cup of coffee? For chrissakes, I’d take a cold cup of coffee at this point. Then again, it was my apartment, and with my luck, there would be a dead body inside and I’d be framed for the murder. Why couldn’t stuff like this happen at a decent time of day when I was fully rested?
I pressed my ear against the door. Well, really it was more like I slumped against the door, but the result was the same. I listened for any signs of movement. The wooden door was cool against my cheek. Silence greeted me. Hmm, maybe there really is a dead body, I mused with a sick sense of morbid curiosity.
