Even Strength by Lane Martin

Title: Even Strength - A Mile High Miners Novella

Series: (Happy Endings Resort, #55)
Author: Lane Martin
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: November 15, 2018

Synopsis
Happy Endings Resort is where I spent the best summers of my life running amuck with my older brother and where I went now to get away from it all. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t complaining about being team captain and starting center for the NHL’s Mile High Miners and now, Stanley Cup champs. Damn, that sounded good to add. It was my greatest dream come true, but it was a long season, and I was looking forward to some downtime in a place where I was still just Barrett to everyone. It was a nice change of pace from being "Boom Boom” McGill and thanks to a new service at the resort called, Happy Campers, I had a clean cabin and cold beer waiting for me when I arrived. For once, some R&R was the only thing on my to-do list. Funny how it all changed with a knock on my door. Okay, two knocks, but I stopped counting when I opened the door for Adelaide. Hell, maybe I stopped breathing because I stopped thinking straight the second I saw her. What was wrong with me? Nothing about the shy mother of two should have intrigued me. Maybe it was the fact that she was outnumbered by her kids. She deserved to be on a team with Even Strength. I wanted to be that for her, only time would tell if I would make the cut. A standalone novella Mile High Miners #1 Recommended for mature readers due to explicit material

About The Author

Writing never crossed my mind. I was a working wife and mother, but in June of 2012 that all changed when my sister bought me a little book by E.L. James for my birthday. I couldn’t get enough of the series, and that’s when I found out about Fanfiction. I decided to give it a whirl and rediscovered a part of me I had long since forgotten. With the encouragement of my Fanfiction readers and the support of my family, I decided to write something of my own. I guess you can say the rest is history. I currently live in Northern California with my husband of over twenty years and my high school age son, while my daughter attends college in Washington, DC. I love reading, spending time with my family, traveling, and trying out restaurants that are on Food Network. Thank you for joining me on this crazy ride.

With complete disregard for the danger he was in, the zombie lurched around to face me then attacked. He swung the table leg at me as if he was Babe Ruth. I caught it between the blades of the swords and, with a quick twist, wrenched the club from his hands. It clattered to a stop at the feet of The Blob, who continued to eat his meal, watching the proceedings with only mild interest. I would deal with him later. The swords felt light and comfortable in my hands, thanks to Eddie’s training. It pissed me off to admit he had been right about my gun not being the solution in every situation. I twirled the swords, familiarizing myself with the feel of them. Then the zombie lunged at me again, reaching out with his hands. In two quick slashes, his oily balloon head fell to the ground with a dull thud, and the top half of his body slid from the bottom half where I had cut cleanly through his torso. That might have taken care of the vessel, but the ooze wasn’t affected. It poured forth from his eyes, nose, and mouth, sliding across the floor to join the larger mass that had moved into the center of the restaurant. It seemed to be waiting for a command from The Blob, who had his hand held up, signaling for it to wait. My eyes shifted to the girl who was still in a chair in the far corner by the door. With gritted teeth, sweat beading her forehead, and mascara running in rivulets down her cheeks, she was intent on willing her body to move. Her face was terrified, but the paralytic effects of the poison seemed to be slowly wearing off as her fingers twitched. Turning to The Blob, I said, “Why don’t you call back your mucus monster, and I’ll let you walk away from this in one piece, not like your friend there?” I nodded toward the wet, bloody pieces of the zombie littering the floor. He chuckled deeply. “Why don’t you leave, and I’ll depart peacefully with the girl and my pulmonata?” he said, referring to his gooey offspring. “The way I see it, I have the distinct advantage here. Your flimsy swords cannot harm my child.” Yuck. He just referred to that giant ball of snot as his child. “What do you want with the girl?” “There are plenty of desperate Monere out there who aren’t as fortunate as I am to have a human-like form. Some need a human to wear so they may come out of hiding and live a normal life. Others just need to eat or mate,” he said, eyeing me from head to toe. I shuddered, knowing he was picturing me naked. “My job is to supply them with what they need.” Bile rose in my throat at the thought of what could have happened to that poor woman. How many other humans had already suffered the same fate? And here I was, practically playing games with these creatures, refusing to take up the most powerful weapon I had against them because of my own fear. How many had died or been sold into slavery already because of my own cowardice? Enraged, I spun my dual swords and lunged toward the smug bastard. Fear flashed across his face, but he was too big and lumbering to even attempt an escape. Instead, he spat mucus globs at me, one after the other. My spinning swords sliced them to ribbons before they could touch me, splatters of goo flying across the restaurant and landing on almost every exposed surface. By the time I reached him and split him open, chest to pelvis, spilling his innards onto the floor between his feet, he had let loose almost a dozen zombie-making children. Pausing to catch my breath, I heard the woman by the door scream, “Behind you!” I spun around to see every last droplet of ooze moving down the walls and along floors. If that stuff escaped the restaurant, it could infect hundreds of humans. Given the disgusting filth that already stuck to public streets and sidewalks in the city, green ooze would just be more globs stuck to the bottom of shoes and carried home to infect entire families.

The Story Of Lansing Lotte Tour (Legendary Rockstars #2): Character Interview & Giveaway

Title: The Story Of Lansing Lotte (Legendary Rockstars #2)

Author: L.B. Dunbar
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: April 28, 2015

Synopsis

I get it. I’ve heard the jokes. My name sounds like some medieval character who was a hero. Hell, my best friend’s named Arturo King. Ring any medieval bells? But this is my story and I’m no hero. I also get the jokes. Lancelot is a play on the words lance and lot, and a lance refers to a sword, which is a euphemism for dick. What does a man do with his dick? He fucks. A lot. So if my name is Lansing Lotte, I must be “fucking lot.” Get it? Fucking a lot? Which I’m not saying I don’t, that’s not the point. Another reference to something sexual. Get my point? Huh, I made a punny. But again this is my story, and I haven’t done anything funny. In fact, I’ve killed three women, and only one of them I loved. Yeah, that’s right? Not laughing now. It’s not funny. And I’m definitely no fucking hero.

“Because I know you love her. It must hurt.” “I…I don’t know that I’m capable of love, Lila. All I seem to do is destroy women, and myself.” She reached a shaky hand for me and pushed my longish bangs back from my forehead. It was surprisingly comforting. “I don’t believe that,” she said. “I think you just have difficulty choosing someone safe.” Her fingers continued through my hair and my muscles relaxed. It was soothing. It was motherly, which should have creeped me out, but didn’t. I don’t know what prompted me, but I laid my head down on her stomach. Her breathing was ragged, and I could hear her heart beat rapidly through the oxford shirt. She was holding her body still, but she continued to gently run her fingers through my hair. She was hesitant at first, almost as if she was petting me, but her fingers slipped into my longer locks and she massaged back and forth over my scalp. I was relaxing into her stomach and my nose nuzzled against her. She was firm under there, and she had that sexy hip thing going on. She sucked in a breath when my nose drew a line back and forth across her belly. My mouth watered to get a taste of those hipbones just below her navel. She was dragging her fingers through my hair more intently, and I slid my face down her belly. She had a sweet fragrance about her, something flowery and something I wasn’t certain of at first. Instantly, I recognized that Lila smelled like sex. My hand came up to remove the blanket from her legs and I heard her sigh. Her hand wrapped into my hair, tugging gently, and I took it as a sign to continue moving down her body. Her legs opened slightly and my nose dragged closer to my destination. “You smell sexy, Lila.” She sighed again and a choked sound followed. My eyes glanced up to discover hers were closed. Her head leaned back and her lips parted. I dragged my nose across her damp panties, inhaling her sweetness. “You want me?” I breathed against her, knowing she was wet and ready for me under the cotton. I couldn’t believe it. Lila gave no hint that she was attracted me. She was well aware that I was continually turned on around her, but she gave me no indication that she could be attracted to me. Unless… “We’re friends, right, Lila?” I said, a bit of curiosity in my voice. She sighed again and I blew a breath onto her. Her arousal was heady, and I was intoxicated by her. “We could be friends. Together. It would be a good distraction.” I kissed her over the cotton and I felt her sit upright. She looked drugged; her eyes glassy and confused. “I can’t,” she said on a choke. “What?” I softly groaned. “I…I can’t do this with you.” “Lila, I didn’t mean…” She was pushing back into the corner of the couch, forcing me to sit upright. She grabbed the blanket off the floor to cover her, but then decided to stand. “Lila, I…” “I can’t compete with ghosts, Lansing.” “Lila, it’s not like…” “I know all about ghosts…and I can’t fight them whether dead…or alive,” Lila added, as she held the blanket before her legs like a shield and quickly turned to leave me stunned on the couch.

Character Interview

Please welcome Lansing Lotte from L.B. Dunbar's The Story of Lansing Lotte to Diane’s Book Blog.

Do you have a nickname?

I’ve been told my nickname is The Lady Killer. I guess it’s because I have a way with the ladies, but Tristan Lyons would argue it’s because women who fall for me are loyal to a fault. I slay them he says. I say he’s full of shit. He wouldn’t know as he goes through women like slices of cake, savoring each bite only once.

What is in your refrigerator right now? On your bedroom floor? On your nightstand? In your garbage can?

Uhm…I’m not sure what’s in my fridge. Lila’s kind-of taken over that, but when I was on my own, it would be filled with beer if my best friend, Will Galehaut was over. He likes to keep it well stocked which he really does only for himself as he invades my apartment (laughs). Bedroom floor – I guess you could say, my guitars, but respectfully propped in holders. Nightstand – a notebook. I’ve been jotting down lyrics for a song. Garbage can – uhmmm…do I need to answer truthfully? Okay, four condoms and a bottle of wine.

Who are the people you are closest to?

Definitely the band, The Nights. Arturo King is my oldest friend and best friend. He’s like a brother, he is my brother, the way I see it, as are the other guys, Perkins Vale, our drummer, and Tristan Lyons, bass guitarist. I love these guys. We are a band of brothers, literally.

What is your biggest fear?

I have some ghosts in my skeleton, and my fear, which is real, is that in time all will be revealed. It has to be. I know the truth will set me free, but that truth might also destroy everything.

What is your most treasured possession?

Guitar from my mother – a 1931 Gibson L-I Flattop – she taught me to play on it.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

Uhmmm…(swallowing hard)…my greatest love is…music. The guitar was my first love, definitely. Oh, you meant ladies, well, let’s just say who I thought was my greatest love turned out not to be, and who I never expected to love, is the greatest love of my life.

What is your greatest regret?

(Laughing). Where do I start?

Who is your favorite hero of fiction? In real life?

Hands down, Lila Lovelourne. She saved me. She’s a hero for all that she’s been through which isn’t my right to tell. I admire her, well more than admire her. She’s acted selflessly for herself and Fleur.

What is your motto?

I’ve never really thought about it before, but I guess I’d say: let go of the past. It can haunt you, destroy you, eat your dreams, if you don’t let it go. Reach forward, not back.

Thanks for stopping by.

Excerpt

We stare at each other in silence. I watch as her pupils dilate, taking over the bright blue of her iris until only a small sliver remains. When her eyes drop to my mouth, I gulp and part my lips, my heart racing from the familiar way she’s looking at me. I can hear her soft panting, and watch, mesmerized as a beautiful pink color stains her gorgeous high cheekbones. “El,” I whisper, leaning closer, so close I can feel her feathery breaths on my face. I need to claim her, to reassure myself that she’s safe, alive, and that she’s still mine. I failed her, but I need another chance. Her hand reaches out to clutch my leg tightly, her fingers dig in and twist the fabric of my jeans. “Adam.” My name slips off of her tongue and sends sparks of desire down my spine. “Sweetheart.” My endearment is nearly a sob as I’m overcome with emotion. I reach up and slide my hand behind her neck, pulling her to me until our mouths clash together desperately. Six years of loss trying to be mended with one single kiss. I groan and my cock stiffens uncomfortably as Ellie plunges her tongue into my mouth and tastes every bit of me before retreating so she can suck on my lip. “Jesus, Sweetheart,” I moan against her mouth. She wraps her hands around my neck and I put mine under her tight ass to haul her onto my lap. “Why didn’t you tell me about your dad, about Callum? We didn’t have to be apart all this time. I could have protected you…” Who am I kidding? I’ve been paying to protect her and she still wasn’t safe. “Don’t,” she whispers. “What’s done is done. I don’t want to think about that time in my life, it was so awful. I, I …” I silence her by pressing my mouth back down on hers, knowing that the emotions coursing through us can’t be expressed with mere words. I know because I feel it tearing through every fiber in my body, the need to connect with Ellie in every possible way. All of the nameless, faceless girls I’ve been with in an attempt to purge Ellie from my heart have done absolutely nothing to erase her from my memories. Every sip of alcohol I drank to numb the pain hasn’t dulled it one bit. I’m still so in love with Ellie Palmer that she’s permanently etched her name on my soul.Ellie groans and shifts to wrap her legs around my waist, our mouths never breaking their precious contact. I’m so thrilled to have her in my arms again that I greedily run my hands over her body, savoring every curve, every smooth bit of exposed skin, threading my fingers through her hair and inhaling her familiar vanilla scent. “God, what you do to me El.” My breath hitches as I attempt to rein in the desire, no the need to be inside of her right now. She opens her eyes and gazes into mine, my vision blurred by the tears that still threaten to overflow. When she leans in and kisses each one of my eyelids, taking the salty liquid away with her soft lips, I actually whimper, so overcome with the tenderness of the gesture that I’m speechless. “I’ve never stopped loving you Adam. Never,” she says softly. “I don’t think I ever will.” A single tear escapes from my eye, making its way down my cheek. Ellie reaches up to swipe it away but I catch her wrist and press her hand over my racing heart. “Feel this, what you do to me. You’re still right here, El. You always will be in my heart.” She slowly removes her hand and reaches for the hem of her jumper, pulling it over her head and tossing it aside. Then she frantically claws at my own shirt, so impatient to rid me of it that she doesn’t wait for me to help. Once it’s gone, I reach around and unclasp her bra, desperately needing to feel her skin against mine. Bare from the waist up, I stand with Ellie clinging to me tightly, her arms around my neck and her legs around my hips, and I take us to the bedroom. I place her down on the massive bed and lay my body on top of hers, unwilling to stop kissing her for even a single moment. Now that I have what I’ve dreamt of for the last six years I won’t waste a second of the precious time I’ve been given. Ellie squirms and moans and makes little noises that drive me insane as I suck and lick and savor the soft skin of her neck. “God, I can’t believe you’re here.” I kiss my way down her flushed skin to take a perfect pink nipple in my mouth. “Adam…” Ellie groans as I tug and tease and lave at each of her tight buds. “I want you. I need you.” Her hips are writhing beneath me, searching for the hard length of my cock through the layers of clothing that separates us. I release her breasts and lift my head to see her face, wanting to be sure she’s not just caught up in the moment. Her eyes are heavy-lidded and her mouth is swollen and red from our kisses. She’s the most stunning thing I’ve ever seen. I kneel on the bed, dragging my hand from her delicate throat down between her breasts then on to grip the edge of her waistband. “You’re sure, Sweetheart? I want you so badly it hurts, just… just tell me this is what you really want.” My dick is pressing against my jeans so hard that it’s painful, making it difficult to think of anything but sinking into her soft, wet, depths. But I have to make sure she’s serious about us, about this. “Yes, please Adam. Make love to me.” Ellie sighs and relaxes back into her pillow. Not having the strength to hold back any longer, I tear down her knickers and leggings together with her boots and let them fall to the floor. Then quickly strip off my own clothes as well, finally releasing my uncomfortably hard cock. Reaching over to the side table, I pull out a condom and roll it on while Ellie stares at my body like I’m a buffet and she’s fucking starving. I savor the sight of her, laid out naked and willing. “Jesus, you’re so beautiful.” I want to go slow, take my time to savor each sensation, taste every inch of her beautiful body. But as I lower myself over her, she bites at my neck and shoulder and her fingers grip my ass so hard that I’ll probably have bruises. I lose control and thrust deep inside her slick, welcoming heat. The sparks of pleasure that rocket through my body nearly make me lose it. I have to grit my teeth and stop, my breath hissing out slowly, as Ellie thrashes beneath me begging me to move. I drop my head into the crook of her neck, inhaling the intoxicating scent of her skin. “It’s too much, Sweetheart. I’ve missed you, this, feeling you around me.” I need to go faster. Slower. Faster. I just need her. Her hands skim up my back and settle on either side of my face, pulling me up until our foreheads press together. “Me too.” She groans, then kisses me passionately, nipping at my lips, sucking my tongue into her hot mouth. “Fuck, El, I can’t hold back,” I growl as my thrusts speed up and her hips buck off the bed to meet me in perfect rhythm. “I’m there Adam, don’t stop.” She pants and makes incoherent noises that drive me to pound harder into her tight heat. Her fingers weave into my hair and pull, sending a wonderfully painful shock across my scalp. Fuck! More, I need more. But I don’t want it to end. Ellie lifts one leg and wraps it around my back, changing the angle that I enter her. It feels so amazing that it makes my eyes roll up into my head. Without warning, the overwhelming feeling of white hot ecstasy crackles down my spine and jets out of me in one of the most powerful orgasms of my life. While I’m thrusting deep those last few times, Ellie calls out my name and drags her nails across my shoulders as she reaches her own climax. Her convulsions milk every last bit of pleasure out of me as she shudders for what seems like ages. Spent and sweaty, we stay like that for a while, skin to skin as I gently run my fingers through her hair, resting most of my weight on my forearms. She smiles and drags one hand up and down my back, her eyes filled with awe, as if she’s making sure I’m real and won’t disappear if she looks away.“I’ll be right back, Sweetheart.” I press a quick kiss to her red, swollen mouth and slip into the bathroom to clean up. When I return, Ellie is under the covers, chewing on her thumbnail nervously. At least she isn’t dressed and ready to take off. I duck under the sheets and pull her over on top of me, chest-to-chest so I can see the perfect face that I’ve missed every day for the past six years. We tangle our legs together and she looks at me affectionately. I can’t find a single trace of regret in her eyes for what we just did and that gives me hope. Hope that she wants to be with me as much as I want to be with her. “Ellie…” I stroke her back with the callouses that have formed on my fingers after a decade of playing the guitar and she shivers. “I love you. What happens now?” “Now? Let’s rest so we have enough energy to do that again,” she giggles. I know she’s avoiding my question, and for now, I’ll take what she’s offering. But there’s no way she’s leaving this suite without discussing our future. The future we both deserve. One that keeps us together.

True Alpha

Desired (True Alpha 1)
"I thought this wasn't a good idea," she said, breathless, hoping he wasn't suddenly changing his mind. "I'm tired of trying to resist you."

Guarded (True Alpha 2)
”But no more sex?” she asked. His arms locked up again. “No.” “How about kissing?” she asked lightly. He cocked his head to one side. “This isn’t a negotiation.” “No kissing then,” she said. “What about fondling? Over or under clothes? How about straight-up groping?” He gritted his teeth. “Mia,” he growled through them. “I’m just saying…” She pushed in her chair. “If I accidentally brush up against you in the elevator, don’t be surprised if some part of your body gets squeezed.”

Hunted (True Alpha 3)
"I know your name, Mia." His voice was commanding, yet smooth, like smoke curling over a steel blade. "It means MINE, and that's exactly what I want to make you. Her entire body heated with those words. The snarling of her wolf reduced to a whimper. He'd barely spoken to her, but he was already claiming her with his words. Something Lucas had consistently refused to do, ever since he knew what she was. Colin, on the other hand, knew exactly what she was and wanted her badly enough to march in and demand it. It reached inside her and touched a deep need. One even her wolf couldn't muster a complaint against.”

Captured (True Alpha 4)
"From the moment she came into his life, she'd had that effect: making him feel things that had been long dead. Challenging him to be a better wolf. A better man. Maybe, with her by his side, he could reclaim the other things he'd lost. The other parts of himself. Maybe he could actually be a true alpha again."

Sacrificed (True Alpha 5)
“His heart was breaking, not only because Mace was claiming the girl he loved, but because of her incredible bravery in attempting to spare all their lives. He knew she was strong, but to selflessly try to save them… when by all rights, they should be saving her.”

Claimed (True Alpha 6)
"From the moment you came into my life, you challenged me to be better. A better man. A better wolf. A true alpha, not some broken excuse for…” He paused, his throat thick. She seemed distressed by what he was saying. “Lucas, you’re a good man.” “I’m a better man with you."

Synopsis
How do you find the will to try, when you've spent all your life playing on a field strewn with shattered lives and broken rules? Tragedy and betrayal taught Jenna Sutherland early on that her safest bet was to fiercely avoid any risk, whether it is in work, life, or love. Now a respected orthopedic surgical resident on the cusp of finally breaking through in her career, she’s more guarded than ever. When injured NFL quarterback Wyatt McCoy bulldozes into her life there’s no denying he’s cocky, selfish, and downright dangerous — everything Jenna’s sworn she doesn’t want. Suddenly the levelheaded doctor finds herself facing down her greatest fear, and she’s tempted to gamble all she’s fought so hard to build. The two embark on an intense holiday love affair that quickly teeters on obsession, and tempts them both to think they could go all-in on a real future together. Yet Wyatt's desperation to stay on the field — and out of the operating room — lures him to take dangerous risks with Jenna's trust. Will they win at love or lose everything — including their fragile chance at happiness?

"It's my understanding you requested me specifically," she said smoothly, but he could see that she kept moving things on her desk with her busy hands. "That's right, Doc." "So, I hope that means you plan to be serious about this consult, Mr. McCoy," she said carefully, catching him staring at her chest. And Wyatt couldn't hold back the smile that spread across his face. "I'm willing to do anything for my NFL career, Doc. Besides, cut me some slack, you're the one that wore that sexy lab coat." She practically growled in frustration and he loved it. He needed her off-balance for what he had in mind, but damned if he hadn't guessed he'd enjoy it this much. Time to push her a little more, he thought. As he leaned across her desk and perused her body up and down, he whispered, "Though I do wish it were tighter." "Right. Because I sit around in a lab coat to be sexy. Like I'm in Hustler magazine or something." She suddenly started to coo in a Marilyn Monroe breathy voice. "Oh, no. This microscope is so heavy. Guess I should bend down to relieve the weight of this massive tool. Oh, what's here between my legs? Oh, it’s so warm down there. Maybe I should investigate? Please. So ridiculous," she said to herself with annoyance. "Excuse me, are you okay, Mr. McCoy?" He was definitely not okay. His mouth had fallen open slightly and all the blood had rushed to his lap. Wyatt was so hard he was practically in pain, realizing he may have underestimated this woman. Maybe. Her voice broke through his lust-filled fog. "I thought it was your shoulder that had the issue. Do you have a head injury too?" she asked with concern, replacing her previously sultry voice. "Um. Yeah. I mean no. Just my shoulder. You're the second opinion on my shoulder injury, and my coach also said maybe you could help my game. I'm not sure how though." "It may be hard for you to imagine that you could need help from anyone, but I've certainly been able to assist some of your teammates to use their bodies more effectively." Wyatt raised an eyebrow and smirked. "Now that's more like what I had in
mind."
