Jax dropped low to the ground, and army-crawled from the beam he was standing behind to a stack of construction supplies approximately ten feet in front of him. He would need a better position to take down the bird if Jade got stuck. He wouldn’t want to miss his shot and hit his sister. Jax was hidden much better than Jade had been, as he was dressed all in black from his head to toe. Even with his black hair, the only visible part of him was his face, which he kept toward the ground while he crawled.
As he made it to the pile, he slowly moved to a kneeling position behind the lumber to see how much the fight had changed in the few moments it took to crawl. Surprisingly, not much. The harpy was still dripping blood as she circled away from Jade. Jade was slowly moving in step with the bird while keeping just out of the reach of the bird’s clawed arms as she assessed the situation.
The girls continued to circle each other, but neither moved closer. The bird seemed to sense that Jade was more of a threat than she appeared. Jax could almost smile at that. Most people underestimated him and his sister, but being raised by one of the best night human hunters out there had its perks. Jax leveled his gun in front of him. Jade had a time limit because the rest of the team was hitting the nest soon to reduce the number of harpies. They had already picked a successor that was willing to keep to the rules. Without the leader at the nest, the team would have no trouble eliminating the rest of the harpies.
Jax had the shot and waited for his sister’s approval before a hand came up beside him and pulled it down.
‘This is her fight,’ Rommy mouthed to him. They were too close to speak now as the bird would know their position if they did.
Jax glared at Rommy. Jade was his sister and the only family he cared about. There was no way he was going to let her be skewered by a bird to prove that she wasn’t ready to be a full-time hunter. Rommy and he both knew Jade was more than ready to join the hunters as a full-fledged member, but there was always the possibility for even the best hunter to be taken down by an unpredictable night human … especially one that knew it was her death if she lost.

Scales and Legends (The Merworld Trilogy, #3) by B. Kristin McMichael Review

Scales and Legends (The Merworld Trilogy, #3)Scales and Legends by B. Kristin McMichael
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

B. Kristin McMichael’s SCALES AND LEGENDS is an amazing conclusion to The Merworld Trilogy. The story takes place following book two, SONGS AND FINS. The sirens are on the brink of war. However, Whitney Mallory, may be the key to saving the sirens. This contemporary urban fantasy is suitable for young adults.

I adored this story. I am continually amazed by B. Kristin McMichael’s creativity. We discover some interesting things about Whitney in this novel. She undergoes some attention-grabbing challenges. Whitney’s character has grown tremendously since the Skinwalkers Witchling series. She is a wonderful character that is brave and selfless.

I love that characters from the Blue Eyes Trilogy, the Day Human Trilogy, and Skinwalkers Witchling made appearances in SCALES AND LEGENDS. The connections are clever. That being said, you can follow the story without reading those series. However, I highly suggest them as well.

SCALES AND LEGENDS was exciting from start to finish. I read this book in one sitting. The details were carefully thought out. The Epilogue was well concluded. I’m looking forward to the next spin-off of Jaxton Kristian's story in the NIGHT HUMAN HUNTER. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Day Human Trilogy Blitz: Giveaway

Title: The Day Human  Trilogy Author: B. Kristen McMichaels Genre: YA Paranormal Romance Hosted by: Lady Amber's Reviews & PR

Blurb:

Devin Alexander grew up as the only day human in a world surrounded by night humans who drank blood, sometimes his blood. He spent his life training toward one goal: the protection of one of those blood drinkers, Arianna Grace. But what is he supposed to do when the blue-eyed girl of the legends doesn’t need him anymore? What does his life mean then? How is a guy supposed to move on when the girl he has yearned over for a decade has chosen someone else? Before he can even start to figure out his new life without Arianna, Devin has to deal with another problem. He needs to take care of some unfinished business with a night human he has known for less than a month, but with whom he is magically bound. Vanessa McKinny has promised that she knows a way to undo the spell she placed on Devin to save his life. Devin would do anything to break the bond to be free of her, even if it means traveling to the sidhe village, a place inhabited by a race of night humans that has not had a day human visitor in more than a hundred years. If he doesn’t want to get stuck, he must work with Nessa to find a way to break the bond. Only then can Devin have time to get back to finding his new goal in life, unless he discovers that his path lies with the sidhe.

Blurb:

Book Two of The Day Human Trilogy Book Five in The Night Human World An expansion of The Blue Eyes Trilogy After he inherited the power of the late sidhe king, Devin thought the battle to protect Nessa and proceed with her coronation was over. Everyone feared him, and he had the power to do anything in the sidhe world. He was wrong. As problem after problem arises, Nessa and Devin discover that the path to the throne isn’t as simple as they thought. Formalities must be adhered to, preparations must be made, and between all of that, Devin and Nessa must decide what to do with an obviously pregnant Fiona, who won’t name the father of her child. To make matters worse, the elite sidhe are still assassinating each other. No one in the palace is safe. Who is behind the latest deaths, and can the coronation actually occur with all of the drama going on? Devin and Nessa’s road to power might be cut short if they can’t find the answers.

Blurb:

Book Three of The Day Human Trilogy
Book Six in The Night Human World Devin thought his stay with the sidhe would be short. That soon changed when he found out that he loved Nessa, but love just might not be enough. She has other suitors, and Devin isn’t sure if he wants to go through that again. Too bad for him, suitors are the least of his problems. On the eve of Nessa’s coronation, Devin finds himself framed for using magic he doesn’t possess. With his sidhe powers he’s the only one who knows that the magic harming people around Nessa comes not from nature, but from the witches. Good thing Devin knows a witch or two himself, but will it be in time to save everything and get Nessa on the throne?

Devin concentrated on the road. He had dealt with more difficult obstacles over his nineteen years than a seventeen-year-old girl. In the past he had dealt with much more stress at one time. This should have been easy. He was used to fighting large night human monsters that drank blood to survive. It didn't matter in the least that the girl he wanted to get back to, Arianna Grace, was one of those monsters. She wasn't the scary kind. Nessa really wasn't the scary kind, either; she was the more annoying kind of night human. Devin sighed. Yes, he thought as her window went down another time, she really was the annoying kind.
He had one mission now. Get Nessa home to her family and break the bond she had placed on him to heal him. Once the bond was broken, he would be free to go home to his normal life. It wasn't that he wasn't grateful for the bond she used that saved his life; he just had to get back to where he was needed. His life had one goal, and that was to keep Arianna Grace, the girl that saved his life when he was seven, safe. He should have felt that same bond to Nessa after they were connected, as she also saved his life, but he did not. He only wanted to be free of her and her complaining.

Songs and Fins by B. Kristin McMichael: Q&A and Giveaway

Songs and Fins
B. Kristin McMichael
(The Merworld Trilogy, #2)
Published by: Lexia Press
Publication date: March 14th 2017
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult

Whitney was amazed she finally had a boyfriend, and was prepared for a new life with him in the siren night human world. And the fact he was a lead singer in a rock band in his free time wasn’t bad, either. Too bad having a boyfriend didn’t mean she was going to see him, as his father’s punishment included separating them. Whitney is certain she can handle it, but sure enough, that isn’t the only wrench thrown into her new life. There’s a new threat in town, a scarier one than the backstabbing siren clan she’s part of now. They are night human hunters, and Whitney is an outlawed night human breed. Could her luck get any better? Quiet and peaceful would be ideal, but that’s not what she’s about to get.
—
EXCERPT:
Whitney meeting a new friend
Take my friends, and I’ll take yours. Sam’s worth at least four greens. Thanks for the new servants.
Whitney wadded the note up in her hand and began to push up to go over and tell Amber what she thought, but Tina caught her eye and shook her head, which was enough to make Whitney pause. While she wanted to go over and give Amber a piece of her mind, she trusted her friend. Something in her eyes said to listen to her. Instead of going over to the table, Whitney let Amber think she had won and sat back down alone. It wasn’t like Whitney wasn’t used to being alone in a lunchroom. She had transferred schools once before coming to their school. She would be fine. Once she got to the bottom of things, she would get her friends back.
Sitting back down, Whitney checked over her math homework. It was the only distraction she had with her, and she needed a distraction to keep from blowing up at Amber. It was ridiculous. Whitney wasn’t keeping Sam from Amber. Sam wanted nothing to do with her, or the sirens in general. That wasn’t Whitney’s fault. And actually, Whitney didn’t blame him on the Amber front. Whitney’s mother had told her more than once when she was a child that if you didn’t have something nice to say, you don’t say anything at all. That definitely pertained to Amber. Whitney had nothing she could say about the girl.
“Um …” A shadow fell over Whitney’s paper as someone stood beside the table, blocking the light.
Whitney glanced up to find a girl standing there, staring down at her paper, but not her. She had never seen the girl before, and she was sure she would have remembered her. She had long black hair that was tipped pink around the edges, some tattoos, and too many piercings to count. Even with her school uniform on, the girl stood out. How could you not with a Celtic cross taking up most of your forearm? That wasn’t something you saw often in a school with teenagers. Whitney’s mother would have killed her if she got a small tattoo that could be concealed. This girl’s wasn’t hidden at all.
“Can I sit here?” the girl asked quietly, pointing to the empty table.

Q&A

Welcome to the night human world created by B. Kristin McMichael. She’s here to answer a few questions about her new series and upcoming books, so take a read and check out the Merworld in WATER AND BLOOD. Book 2, SONGS AND FINS, arrives March 14th.

Q: First off, what is the night human world?

A: The night human world was first created in the Blue Eyes Trilogy. Basically, it’s a paranormal world filled with all those creatures that stay up all night and live off of human blood, hence the name night humans. This includes but is not limited to vampires, werewolves, and all those wonderful paranormals. There are also the non-paranormals called day humans that the night humans feed off of.

Q: What makes one a night human?

A: All the clans in the night human world are different. Some change shape, some change in size, some can’t go outside in daylight, while others can. They vary greatly, but what they all have in common is that their food is blood.

Q: So your new series is also set in this world, what sort of night human is this one about?

A: My newest series is the Merworld Trilogy. As the title suggests, this series focuses on mermaids, but these are blood-sucking mermaids. It’s not required to read the Skinwalkers series before this one, but if you did, then you already know the main protagonist Whitney (she was the best friend to Cassie). The Merworld follows her to the beaches of Florida and her accidental encounter with the merfolk that live there.

Q: This isn’t your first night human series. What are the other ones?

A: Yes, this happens to be the fourth series I’ve written that takes place in the same night human world. Each trilogy can be read on their own, but if you start with The Legend of the Blue Eyes, you meet characters that might show up in other series also. The first trilogy focuses on a young girl that turns into a vampire-like creature on her sixteenth birthday. The second series I wrote is The Day Human Trilogy, which follows the character Devin as her travels into the sidhe faerie village and finds a new path in life. The third series is The Skinwalkers’ Witchling which focuses on a witchling girl that finds out her whole community is made up of witches or skinwalkers who turn into monsters at night. And the Merworld Trilogy is the fourth in the night human world. I’m already working on a fifth series in that world also.

Q: How would you describe the main character of Whitney in the first book WATER AND BLOOD?

A: Whitey is a fun character to write. She is as girly as they come, with pink everything. Sometimes comes off a bit daring and ready to jump into situations without a care in the world, but underneath she is smart and cunning. She also is a very loyal friend, which you see in the Witchling Series. In Water and Blood she is just trying to survive her last year in high school. Having to move to Florida unexpectedly after the death of her parents, she is starting over but has no direction. She’s no longer a night human and has to find a new goal in life as a day human. In Water and Blood, her direction basically falls into her lap and sets her on a new path in life.

Q: In WATER AND BLOOD, we get to see a bit into Sam, the male protagonist. Will we learn more about him in Songs and Fins?

A: Yes, and even more in Scales and Legends. Sam is central to the story and I don’t want to give away his part in Water and Blood for those that haven’t read it yet. And yes, there is a lot more behind the cute guy that has been watching Whitney without her knowing.

Q: Any last comments you want to make?

A: Water and Blood is a fun new series in the night human world and you don’t have to read all the others first. I personally love to read books with the same characters, but as an author, after a few books, I feel like their story is told and I like to move onto new characters. That is what I’ve been doing by staying in the same world of night humans. The first book in the night human world is The Legend of the Blue Eyes, it’s always a free ebook for anyone to try and see if they like the night human world and then there are 10 more you can read in that world, soon to be more.

And on a more personal level, being an author for the past four years has been great. All the fans and people willing to give a new author a try have been wonderful. It can be a lot of work (right now we are editing two books, writing a new book, listening and coordinating three audio books, getting new covers made, and working with a translator for another book all while marketing the books out there- it is a super busy job) but all the time spent getting the best book out there for people to read has been worth it. Thank you to all the fans that have read my book and thank you for anyone out there that has been willing to give my books a chance.

Water & Blood by Kristin B. McMichael: Giveaway

Water and Blood (The Merworld Trilogy Book 1) by B. Kristin McMichael Review

Water and Blood (The Merworld Trilogy Book 1)Water and Blood by B. Kristin McMichael
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

B. Kristin McMichael is off to another incredible series with the first book in The Merworld Trilogy, WATER AND BLOOD. I loved this book. My heart broke for Whitney at the end of the Skinwalkers Witchling Series. I was so glad her story continued. After being attacked by a witch and having her skinwalker abilities striped from her, she moved to Florida to live with her human relatives and start a new life. However, after meeting fellow student, Sam, she is thrown back into the night human world.

B. Kristin McMichael has wonderful imagination. She once again created another magical tale. I loved the plot. I thought it was clever how Sam and Whitney meet. I’m a certified scuba diver, so I appreciated the concept of sirens. Whenever I dive I feel like I am one with the fish, so it made it easy to visualize what it would be like in the water. I like the history of the sirens/mermaids and how they are no longer supposed to exist.

Prior to reading this book, I already liked Whitney’s character. She has never felt like she fit in. She is a good person and friend. She is smart, persistent, and brave. Sam is a great hero. He is a siren prince. He has such a better personality then his siblings. He is a smart leader. I like that he stands up for himself and Whitney. Whitney and Sam have great chemistry. I love that they met briefly in Washington State when they were kids.

Amber and Sam’s brother, Tim, caused some interesting conflicts in the story. Amber is selfish. Tim is evil. They both added to the excitement of the story.

B. Kristin McMichael is an amazing writer. I have enjoyed every book that I have read by her. Her stories flow skilfully. Her characters are well developed. They contain mystery, action, and drama. Her stories are creative and original. I’m anxiously awaiting the next book in the trilogy. I am interested in how the story will play out. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

The Witchling Seer (The Skinwalkers' Witchling #3) by B. Kristin McMichael Review

The Witchling Seer (The Skinwalkers' Witchling #3)The Witchling Seer by B. Kristin McMichael
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Kristin McMichael’s THE WITCHLING SEER takes place following book 2, THE WENDIGO WITCHLING. Cassie Booth now has two mates, Nate and Jared, causing a volatile truce between the skinwalkers and wendigo. There is ongoing conspiracy, while Cassie tries to find a solution for continued peace. This paranormal fantasy is suitable for young adults.

B. Kristin McMichael continues doing a great job developing her characters. Cassie is still new to the supernatural world and learning as she goes on, especially where her visions are concerned. She and her very different mates used to be best friends as children but all that changed eight years prior when Jared was forced to turn to a wendigo and Cassie’s memory was stolen. I respect Cassie’s drive and concern for others. Despite Nate’s and Jared’s differences, they are both very protective of Cassie. Jared is sweet and selfless. Nate is strong and a good leader.

I liked the ties to B. Kristin McMichael’s other trilogies: Blue Eyes and Day Human. While you can understand the Skinwalkers' Witchling series without reading those trilogies, I found that some of the incidences probably had a lot more meaning for me having read those books. I love that Turner Winter once again makes an appearance in this series, in addition to, Arianna Grace, from the Blue Eyes Trilogy. Ariana plays a significant role in the novel. I’m a huge fan of Devin and was happy he made an appearance.

I enjoyed the plot. There is a lot of treachery, and I was never really sure where the story is going to go. We find out some interesting things about Cassie’s parents. There were unexpected twists. The story was fast-paced and kept me enthralled. Some heartbreaking things happened. The story had a great ending that felt well resolved. I will look forward to Whitney’s story to be release in 2017.
