Cali Melle gets a hat trick with book three in the Wyncote Wolves series, PLAYING OFFSIDES. In this story, Cameron Sawyer convinces Aspen Rossi to tutor him in biology, so he doesn’t risk losing his hockey scholarship and potential NHL career. She agrees, thinking tutor would look good on her med school applications. Neither one of them is interested in a relationship. The longer time they spend together the more they realize the other person isn’t what they thought.
Cam and Aspen are both in their junior year at Wyncote University in Vermont. I like Aspen. She has ADHD, not wanting anyone to know. Her parents have a toxic relationship, giving her a negative view of relationships. She is focused on school. Cam is a good guy. Unlike his team mates, he does not come from a lot of money. He doesn’t want to let his parents and teammates down by losing his scholarship.
PLAYING OFFSIDES was the perfect addition to the Wyncote Wolves series. It is heartfelt and believable. I am looking forward to Hayden’s and Eden’s story, FACEOFF, next. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
