H. Hunting lights the lamp with BITTER SWEET HEART (Lies, Hearts & Truths #2). This is Maverick Waters story. He is the son of Alex and Violet Waters from PUCKED (Pucked #1) written as Helena Hunting and FOREVER PUCKED (Pucked #4).

Maverick has been avoiding relationships and concentrating on hockey to follow in his NHL father’s footsteps since he could remember. He is entering his senior year of college and intending to continue the same path. Then he runs into his one-nightstand from the summer, Clover Sweet. The girl he can’t stop thinking about, but unfortunately, she is also his professor.

H. Hunting does an amazing job with this story. Maverick is struggling against the idea of living in his hockey-legend father’s footsteps. He doesn’t want to disappoint his parents. He is also still suffering from the effect of his sister Lavender’s (LITTLE LIES, Hearts & Truths #1) abduction when she was a child, feeling he was responsible. To top things off, he likes Clover, but since she is his professor, there are obvious complications. I love that That Maverick makes origami paper cranes. I appreciated the photo "origami crane instructions" at the end of the story.

Clover is an intriguing heroine. She is older than Maverick but still in her twenties. She filed for a divorce, but her spouse does not want to sigh the papers, despite the long length of their separation. He makes her life difficult. She is struggling with the ethical implication with Maverick. She has a good heart and handles things well.

BITTER SWEET HEART is a heartfelt and emotional read. It had me laughing and crying. The characters are complex and relatable. The plot was carefully thought out. I appreciated how past books played into this story. BITTER SWEET HEART is the perfect addition to the Lies, Hearts & Truths series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
