Echoes of Balance Blog Tour with Cally Ryanne: Interview, & Giveaway

Echoes of Balance

(The Ways Trilogy #1)

Cally Ryanne

For Chloe Moraine, fighting wild bears– and the occasional vampire– is a better pastime than the tediousness of keeping the universe in balance. But balancing is the family business. It comes with being one of the last in the ancient line of Naimei.

So when the impending return of the Original Demons threatens global harmony, Chloe is obligated to help. Even when that means the dull-as-dirt task of following a human girl who “might be involved, maybe,” instead of the thrilling hunt she craves.

With their powerful magic and ancient Ways, Chloe’s family is unconcerned, certain they’ll quickly fix the imbalance while she’s preoccupied with human high school. But when the Ways start to fail, the threat becomes more serious, and the only person that seems to know anything is a debonair vampire with an offer to help.

If Chloe chooses to trust him, and the darker side of the supernatural he represents, she’ll betray her family and risk losing them, and herself, in the process. But if he’s right, he may just be their only chance to stop the return of the Originals and save the world.

Maybe high school won’t be so boring after all.

Author Bio:

Cally Ryanne is a vegetarian, with a serious avocado habit, in search of the perfect leather jacket. She graduated from a Midwestern art school in 2012 with a BFA in Drawing and a minor in Creative Writing, and then proceeded to do exactly what most art students do after graduation – nothing to do with art. She currently teaches math in New York City to a bunch of kids who call her “Miss.” In her spare time (between the day job and the night time superhero persona), she writes, piecing together characters and stories that have been following her around since she was a child. She currently lives in uptown Manhattan with some awesome roommates – including her best friend from middle school – and a cat that can’t keep his tongue in his mouth. Echoes of Balance is her debut novel and the first in The Ways Trilogy, a Young Adult urban fantasy.

Interview:

I would like to thank author Cally Ryanne for stopping by today to tell us a little about herself and Echoes of Balance.

What is your favorite part of the story, Echoes of Balance?

Any part with Gregory Ducante. He's this sort of spur of the moment character that I original just wrote in to fill a space in the story, and then I totally fell in love with. He's driven by money - really, just by money - despite being supernatural and powerful in his own right. He's a little old fashion, a little evil, and a little bit of a wild card. I love writing Gregory Ducante.

How long did it take you to write Echoes of Balance?

Maybe about eight months or so? I was in college at the same time, so it had lots of time spent on the back burner gathering some dust between writing sessions. And then once it was finally done, it took a lot of rewrites and tweaks and additions and deletions to get anywhere near 'let's show this to someone else' quality.

Bottom line: it took awhile.

If you could be best friends with one of your characters, who would it be?

Oof, I don't know if I could be best friends with any of my characters! They're all a little emotionally skewed; Chloe has never really had a positive, healthy friendship, Aurelia is too clingy, the rest are a little psychotic or withdrawn... I like enjoying them from afar. :)

Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

Oh man, I love me some Truman Capote. In Cold Blood? Game changer. Music for Chameleons? Awesome. Breakfast at Tiffany's? Spirit animal. I love the ease of the writing and the careful precision he puts into his descriptions. Highly recommended, especially if you're someone who is like I was in their teen years and chronically stuck in the paranormal YA bubble.

What is your typical day like?

It's really not that exciting. I have a Monday - Friday career type job, so I'm typically there unless it's a holiday. I generally leave work between 5 and 6, depending on how late I have to stay, then I jet home, shove some food in my mouth, and head to the gym. Workout classes are a phenomenal time to brainstorm or just decompress about life, once you get over that initial 'sweet lord i'm going to die i'm so out of shape' feeling.

Then I head home, take a shower (read: more brainstorming and/or decompressing) and find some time to read, write, or create whatever I need to - after I finish any extra stuff I have to have done by work the next day. I get significantly more writing done on the weekend when my schedule is a little bit more flexible.

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

The whole first chapter is on REUTS.com (http://www.reuts.com/books/echoes-of-balance/) and there are lots of character shorts on my blog (ducanteoriginals.wordpress.com). I also used to lurk around sites like Figment. :)

What book are you reading now?

I just finished The Eternity Cure by Julie Kagawa and I've moved onto Decoded by Jay-Z (it's ghostwritten by dream hampton - look it up). I like to keep my reading choices multi-faceted; I come back to YA sometimes - because why not - but mostly I've been branching out in my old age.

What do you prefer paperback, hardcover, or ebooks?

Phew, anything but hardcover. I know they look nice, I know they feel nice, but I travel way too much for them to be super useful for me. I used to be very anti-ebook, 'cause I like the feel of paper, until I realize how easy it is to load them up into the kindle app and run around town with them.

Trust Me by K. E. Osborn Book Blast

 About the Book:
When Jenifer Taylor, a young woman from the big City of Mornington Vale California starts her day, it turns from bad to worse, when on her way to work she’s involved in a chain collision.
Jeni is content with her life, dull and boring as it is, because being absent from the dating scene, means she doesn’t have to deal with the major trust issues she has with men.  Her trust issues stem from a controlling and aggressive ex boyfriend, and an absentee father.  She’s happy being alone, sharing her life with her friends and family.
Her world changes forever when she meets Aiden O’Connell, the billionaire son of Alistair O’Connell, who owns Mornington Vale’s largest financial incorporation. Aiden is an up and coming young businessman, who's ready to take on the Vice Presidency in his father’s incorporation.   He's focused on the business, and life for Aiden involves working hard and not much else. Aiden is the good son, and Alistair wants nothing more than for Aiden to succeed and follow in his footsteps, it’s imperative to him.
After the accident Aiden finds Jeni irresistible, and pursues her instantly, and with some coaxing she eventually agrees to a date.  It becomes apparent that they are very attracted to one another.
Jeni finds love quickly with Aiden, but trusting him is another issue.  Trust is a major factor, and the question of when to give it can be asked of us in many different ways.  Jeni is asked this question, when she finds out that Aiden is being investigated for a serious crime.  Jeni’s trust issues spark, as she goes through a journey of self-discovery.
She must decide once and for all whether she trusts the man she loves, when she’s asked the ultimate question:
“Do you trust me?”
This is book one in a series of three.  Book two "Love Me?" coming soon.
EXCERPT ONE:
I exhale. “I have major trust issues with men. My dad left before I was born. My ex… well, he cheated and left me. I can’t just trust that you are who you say you are. I mean how do I know that you won’t treat me the same way?”
He sighs. “Trust issues, huh? I can work with that.” He smiles, lightening the mood. “Let’s take this one day at a time. I don’t plan on hurting you. I don’t think I ever could. Trust is a big thing. It has to be earned. I’ll do my time until you trust me. I’m not planning on going anywhere. I don’t know about you, but for me, there is something here, and I’m willing to wait and work at it to find out what that is. That’s if you want to?”
I can’t help but smile. “I think there’s something here as well, and with time, I’m sure I’ll trust you.”
“I can live with that.”
“Wow! That got serious real quick,” I say, laughing. He nods in agreement. “Aiden,” I say softly.
“Yes, Jeni?”
“Kiss me!”

Scars of the Bifrost by A.J.M. Mousseau Tour: Interview, Review & Giveaway

Scars of the Bifrost
by A.J.M. Mousseau

Genre: YA paranormal/sci-fi romance

Synopsis:
Freya Catten has lived on the fringes of society her entire life, growing up in hiding with her mother in the deepest, wildest places left in North America—the national parks and forests. Freya's mother taught her how to live off the land, away from civilization—mysteriously warning her of the dangers of getting involved with society and leaving traces of her DNA behind. But five years ago Freya's mother abandoned her, leaving Freya to survive on her own.

Freya knows how to stay alive, whether she's hiding in the forest or running on the city streets. She changes her appearance often and owns nothing but her backpack filled with survival gear and a necklace that had been her mother’s.

But, keeping one step ahead of Social Services isn't her biggest fear. Freya's true terror lies with The Takers—strange men who rappel from silver cords out of the deep blue sky from nowhere. They snatch up their victims then evaporate without a trace. Freya holds a dark suspicion—that the Takers are really after her, and they are closing in.

Freya realizes that if she is to ever have a normal life she must first find her mother and answer the questions that have kept her in hiding. Along the way, she meets Theron Hawk—a rugged teenage soldier from a war-torn country—and finds herself truly trusting someone for the first time in her life.

As secrets are uncovered, and Freya comes closer to solving the mysteries surrounding her life, her blood and the priceless necklace that lays at her throat, the scars of the Bifrost will threaten to rip apart Freya's very existence.

SCARS OF THE BIFROST is the first story in The Scars Saga and is a Young Adult science-fiction/fantasy/paranormal romance novel infused with wilderness survival, urban fantasy, dystopian elements and mythological realism.

About A.J.M. Mousseau:

I am an author and university student. I live in a recreational vehicle -- by choice -- with my awesome husband, four amazing kids, and huge, fluffy, 85 pound golden retriever named Titan. I write and do school on line as we travel throughout the U.S. and Canada. It is incredible to live in a new place every few months (sometimes weeks) and to see everything! We have lived this clan and tribal lifestyle for two years now and have been to over twenty national parks and forests. They gave me a lot of inspiration for Freya's story.

Unlocking Brísingamen, the next book in the Scars Saga, will be released very soon!

Interview:

What is your favorite part of the story, Scars of the Bifrost?
I love the scene where Theron and Freya have been in a street fight against a gang in New Orleans. Theron turns into “Dr. Hawk” in his worry about Freya. The scene and the characters are at once tough and kick-butt, yet gentle and caring. I love the dialogue in this scene too, while he’s examining her, but to tell anymore would reveal way too much!!!

Who is your favorite character in the Scars Saga?
Theron’s strength and courage coupled with his emerging emotional vulnerability makes him my favorite character. He has been so unloved all of his life and afraid to experience or feel his own emotions – as he begins to allow these simmering feelings to bubble to the surface, he has to work very hard to balance them and come to grips with them without losing himself.

What is your typical day like?
Because I have so many publishing deadlines set and I am still learning about running my own publishing business, I usually wake up, reach over, grab my laptop and try to get an hour of creative work, networking or marketing in before I even get out of bed! I am on a study abroad program in Montreal learning French – classes are three hours every weekday. When they let out in the afternoon, I write for another few hours then meet up with my husband and kids so we can have an adventure, explore, go to the library, read or just spend time together.

How do you overcome writer’s block?
Exercise and music. If I can’t exercise, I’ll put on my mp3 player and play the scenes in my head like a movie.

Can you share a little of your current work with us?
Unlocking Brisingamen – Book Two in The Scars Saga is in to the editor! I am still working out the final chapters and the excitement is revving up! I can’t wait to share it with everyone! Did Theron survive? Will Freya and Theron find a way back to each other? What if Freya’s friends find out her deepest, darkest secrets? Would they protect her or betray her? How are they ever going to stop Morag and the plan he has set in motion?

What book are you reading now?
Mangled Hearts from my friend and fellow Dauntless Indies writer Felicia Tatum.

What do you prefer paperback, hardcover, or ebooks?

I prefer shelves stacked full of paperbacks. Paperbacks are easier to hold for long periods of time! However, living in a 36 foot RV with six people and a Golden Retriever, I have come to value the great magical properties of my beloved Kindle that can hold so many books in so little space!!!

My Review:

Scars of the Bifrost (The Scars Saga #1)Scars of the Bifrost by A.J.M. Mousseau
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Freya Catten has been living on her on her own for years. Before her mother, Anna Catten, left to protect her, she taught Freya everything she needed to know in order to survive by herself and in the wilderness. It was ingrained in Freya’s mind that she needs to be invisible. Don’t be caught on camera and never leave a sample of your DNA. She needed to make sure to never be caught by the Takers, a group of terrorist that were kidnaping U.S. citizens by repelling from silver cords and then vanishing as soon as they capture their victims.

For reasons unknown the Takers have been targeting Freya, but she has always been one step ahead of them. Until one day in Lexington, Kentucky, when they caught up to her: murdering and kidnaping those around her. Luckily, she could get away with the help of a boy named Theron Hawk.

Scars Of Biofrost is the first book in the Scars Saga. It covers a number of genres: Action, Adventure, Dystopian, Fantasy, Mythology, Paranormal, Romance, Science Fiction, Urban Fantasy, Young Adult. There is something in this novel for everyone. It is well-written and original.

I was really impressed with the great detail that Mousseau wrote about the things Freya and Theron needed to do to survive. Mousseau’s attention to detail is commendable. It makes the novel truly believable. I cannot wait for the release of Unlocking Brisingamen, Book Two of the Scars Saga.

Hotter Than Hot by Milly Silver Blog Tour & Review

Hotter Than Hot
by Milly Silver

Maggie Lee is Space Cadet 69. She begged for a different number. But no can do. She's stuck with a 69 on her forehead, until she's vaporized. That pretty much sums up Maggie's life.
Stuck in a boring job counting tins of meatballs.
Stuck on the dullest space station in the universe, Lanzarote.
And stuck with no hope of achieving her dream of flying scout ships.
Enter hot guy Hunter in his blinged-up spaceship. Things start to get unstuck for Maggie real fast.

Maggie needs to outwit evil Lord Zagon who wants to kill her for her cherished precognition helmet, find a rare space rock to save her family from suspended animation and flee from giddy space pirates wanting to pimp out her friends to the nearest aliens. Hunter being a sexy space god isn't exactly helping Maggie's concentration levels either.

Can Maggie pull it off? If she doesn't, her family will be frozen forever and Lord Zagon will rule the universe. Then she'll definitely never get to fly scout ships.
*HOTTER THAN HOT is a NA romantic comedy. It's a light, fast read that will keep you laughing all the way through. The perfect beach read!

My Review:

Hotter Than HotHotter Than Hot by Milly Silver
My rating: 3 ½ of 5 stars

Maggie Lee, Space Cadet 69, had a boring life counting meatballs on the space station, Lanzarote. Her goal was to become a pilot flying scout ships. Unfortunately, she doubted she would ever raise enough money to achieve her dream.

Suddenly, her life is turned upside-down with the delivery of Hunter, a super good-looking space pilot. Yes, delivery, he was shipped to her. He was sent to help Maggie fight the evil Lord Zagon, who wanted a precognition helmet her grandfather had given her. She must keep it away from Zagon in order to save the universe.

Hotter Than Hot reminded me of the 1987 movie Spaceballs by Mel Brooks minus the Star Wars innuendos. It is a funny and a quick read. If you want something on the lighter side that will make you laugh this is the perfect book.

The Blue Blood Legacies

by Amy Bol

Mila was use to life on her own. She was done running, and fully expected to face her past alone and on her own terms. That is, until Landon wandered into her life and changed the terms. Now, together, they face a common enemy, one that neither can run from forever. For, even as her enemies exist a continent away, the draw of the Bane in her blood will bring them only a heartbeat from her. But it was the heartbeat beside her that pounded the loudest, and the one that could be her undoing… "So deep was the fine design woven into the very fabric of their blueprint, so precise and sharp were the instruments of Mother Nature, that the danger came not in the divine intention of their form, but in the commune of their unnatural numbers. Dens that size don't exist in nature for a reason. Yet, here one came…" "He was the kind of man that if you saw as a stranger in a room, you allowed yourself that one fleeting moment when you imagine you're flat on your back and pinned firmly beneath him." This is an adult book and is not recommended for young readers.
