My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Hannah Gray is on a winning streak with LAST BOY (The Puck Boys of Brooks University #7). This is Walker James’ and Poppy Wilson’s story.
We first met Poppy in book four, CHOSEN BOY. Poppy is Sutton Savage’s roommate and nemesis. Walker is a freshman starting center on the hockey team. He and Poppy grew up in the same trailer park. They were everything to each other. Then Walker’s parents died of an overdose from drugs sold to them by Poppy’s dad. They had not seen each other in three years. Now they are going to the same college.
This story overlaps with some of the earlier books in this series. It was interesting discovering Poppy’s past and learning why she acted the way she did. For the last three years Walker and his sister have been raised by his rich uncle. The man is a manipulative and selfish bully. He makes a significant antagonist. Poppy and Walker have many issues to work out. I love that they get a second chance. They are amazing characters with lots of depth.
Hannah Gray does an amazing job with this story. It made me laugh and cry. It is skillfully written and thought provoking. It was the perfect addition to The Puck Boys of Brooks University series.
I am looking forward to Walker’s sister Briar’s and Hudson’s story, RUTHLESS. I am also highly anticipating her spin off, Logan Sterns’ book, TELL ME LIES (New England Bay Sharks #1). I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
