Change of Heart by Ava Thorpe
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars
Nat Taylor is a single dad and youth hockey coach. NHL star, Ryan Moore, offers to be Nat’s assistant coach to help support his son’s new hockey team. Neither one of them planned on falling into bed together. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for adult audiences.
I enjoyed the characters. Nat is a good guy and dad to Jae. I appreciated that he is an inclusive coached that doesn’t show favoritism. He believes that all the kids should give an equal coaching time despite their skill level. Ryan is a good dad to Maddox. I like that he is open minded when his son wants to be a goalie and to his relationship with Nat. I valued that he owns up to his mistakes.
Ava Thorpe and Elaine Ashford did a good job demonstrating prejudices and different people’s reaction to the same situation: Nat having been gay versus Ryan, who just entered his first mm relationship. CHANGE OF HEART is a quick read that covers a meaningful lesson. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
