Repressed by Elisabeth Naughton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Elisabeth Naughton’s REPRESSED was a thrilling romantic suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat. This story was outside my typical genre. I’m a fan of Elisabeth Naughton’s Eternal Guardians Series. I enjoy her writing style and was curious about her new series. I absolutely loved it. REPRESSED was full of mystery and conspiracy. The characters and plot were well-developed and believable. This contemporary romance takes place in a small town named Hidden Falls; an hour away from Portland, Oregon. It is suitable for adults.
I liked the heroine, Samantha Parker. She recently returned to her hometown of Hidden Falls after her mother fell ill and passed away. She is working as a chemistry teacher there while she puts her mother’s home up for sale. She has repressed memories of her brother’s murder that took place when she was ten years old. She still suffers from nightmares from the tragedy. As a result, she dislikes psychologist. Enter our hero, Dr. Ethan McClane. He is sent to Hidden Falls to observe one of Sam’s students. He is surprisingly different from the “shrinks” of her past. They develop a relationship and he helps her uncover her past, discovering that they have a connection. Meanwhile, there is a murderer on the loose.
I was greatly impressed by all the details and mystery in this novel. It was full of conspiracy. The characters were interesting, and you had no idea who was trustworthy. The story was well-written and extremely believable. REPRESSED would make an amazing movie. I’m glad I ventured out of my genre comfort zone.
