The Score by Elle Kennedy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
The Score (Off-Campus #3) by Elle Kennedy is the perfect name for this story because this book is definitely in the win column. I LOVED this book. It made me feel just about every emotion: I laughed, cried, was angry, and happy. This new adult contemporary sports romance takes place at Briar University and in New York.
Allie Hayes breaks up with her boyfriend from the past three years. She has always had a boyfriend to rely on. She winds up having a one-night-stand with ladies’ man/hockey star Dean Di-Laurentis. For the first-time, Dean meets a woman who doesn’t fall for his charm; he is enamored by Allie and cannot get enough of her.
Elle Kennedy does a fantastic job developing her characters. I love that the story is told from Allie’s and Deans’ viewpoints, and I enjoyed both their perspectives. Allie has had a more difficult life. Her mother died when she was young. Her father has MS. She is a good person that puts others ahead of herself. Dean has had a great life. He comes from a wealthy family. His intelligence is underestimated. I love that Dean coaches the youth hockey team. He learns a lot about himself by doing that. He doesn’t really suffer a major loss until this book. Both characters endure a lot and grew tremendously through the story.
The plot is easy to relate to and very believable. Just like real life, unexpected issues happen that the characters need to undergo. Elle Kennedy’s writing style is seamless and flows well. The Score has an excellent balance of college life, hockey, drama (as in actual acting), good times, and heartbreak. Elle Kennedy’s The Score is a terrific story that I recommend to anyone that enjoys contemporary sports romances.
