Laces and Lace by Toni Aleo
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
After reading Tangled in the Laces (the prequel), I couldn’t wait to read Laces and Lace. I was not disappointed. Toni Aleo’s books continue to be phenomenal.
Laces and Lace took place nine years after Tangled in Laces. Lacey Martin and Karson King are accidentally reunited when they both get inside the same cab in Chicago. Their reunion could have gone in so many directions; I really love the path it took. Lacey and Karson were always meant to be together, but their relationship was sabotaged by Lacey’s family. The drama is well done.
Lacey is an incredible heroine. She is a breast cancer survivor who pursues a career that makes others with breast cancer have hope. She is self-conscious, which is completely understandable and believable considering everything she has undergone. Plus, I appreciate that she’s a fellow Chicago Blackhawks fan. That being said, if Karson was my man, I would convert to an Assassin’s fan. Okay being honest, I would have two favorite teams.
I really adore Karson (and his family). Karson has always loved Lacey. I revere that he doesn’t care that her breasts were removed and treated her like she is beautiful. He’s a good man and great foundation for Lacey. I appreciate that he never really lets her go and continue to support her even when they are no longer dating.
Lacey’s dad is a piece of work. It is understandable that after losing his wife to cancer whom he would be over protective of Lacey. Needless to say, he is a bit extreme. It makes him an interesting antagonist.
I enjoyed Karson’s roommate JT. Karson’s relationship with his sister, Kacey, cracked me up. Then when you put JT and Kacey together, it is very amusing.
Laces and Lace is an amazing story. The plot is well done and captivating. This series continues to strengthen and remain heartwarming. If you haven’t read Tangled in Laces, it is included with this book. While this book could work as a standalone, I recommend reading the other books in the series, not only because it is one of my favorite series but also because it makes you appreciate the supporting characters more.
