Interview:

Please welcome Beware Of Warlocks author Marilyn Vix to Diane's Book Blog.

What is your favorite Series?

Hands down, my favorite all time series is The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice. Interview With A Vampire, Vampire Lestat, and The Queen Of The Damned are the best in the series. There is no other vampire vane or as fabulous as Lestat. I’ve always wished they’d made Vampire Lestat into a movie. I would have loved to see Lestat pretending to be a gothic rock star. I also love her Anne Rambling books like Exit to Eden. Anne Rice is my hero.

If you could be best friends with one of your characters, who would it be?

Catherine Banks, the main character of the Beware of Warlocks series, would be my drinking buddy. I think her slight snarkish snobbery would get in the way sometimes. But she does have the power to kill at a thought, or crush mortals like a bug. There is a certain distain for weaker creatures. Kind of the way vampires see us as food. So, I think she and I would get along in a spider and fly way. She would be happy to carry me around if needed. We’ve both been through the same man-pain.

Who or what inspired you to be a writer?

I’ve always enjoyed writing my own stories since I was ten. I discovered the absolute power of writing through a journal assignment from my Fifth Grade teacher. Thank you Mrs. Williams. I realized I had complete control over a world and it’s people, and they could do nothing without me. I’ve been hooked since.

What books have most influenced your life?

Any book has influenced my life. I want to read more. I think which books I’m reading will affect the direction I take. I’m currently reading a lot of 80s memoirs. I figure if anybody lived through that decade and can talk about it, I’m going to find it interesting. I read a lot of fantasy and Sci-FI when I was a teen. I was pre Harry Potter. So, I only really have Lord of the Rings as the fantasy king. But there were amazing women Sci-Fi/Fantasy writers like Marion Zimmer Bradley and Anne McCaffrey. They were amazing world builders and I studied their writing patterns.

What book are you reading now?

I’ve been reading a lot of chick-lit and New Adult Romance. The current book I’m reading is called The Not So Secret Emails of Coco Prichard by Robert Bryndza.  It’s a chick-lit series I got from a good friend for my birthday. She got signed paperback copies. It’s all very British humor like Bridget Jones. I’ve been married to a Brit for 11 years. So, I can understand the references. If not, I call out to the couch and I get an instant translation.

What do you prefer paperback, hardcover, or ebooks?

You know, I’m starting to feel married to my Kindle. With the birthday gift paperbacks, it feels weird grabbing a book. I’ve actually grabbed my Kindle twice, and realized I was reading paperbacks right now. I think I’ve dived into eBooks and haven’t really noticed I’ve shifted to ebooks. They are so easy to buy, easy to read, and feed the obsession. Please sir, may I have some more. So, I’m finding I’m only reading paperback if I have to. Most of the time, I’m reading eBooks now.

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

I’m currently working on the last eBook novelette in the Beware of Warlocks series, Never Cross A Warlock. I’ve got Catherine trying to figure out how she will survive divorce witch style. Most witch divorces end in huge spell battles. I’m having her rally her wagons and figure out how she will face off her ex-husband Rich. Jeff is so far at her side, but they’re in Vegas. Anything can happen. Blowing up a casino or two comes to mind. Even I’m not sure until I’m in the writing zone. This is such a character driven story; they are showing me what happens. I’m merely a spectator taking dictation. I’m excited to see how it all ends. Let’s hope, without too many puffs of smoke and ash.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there and enjoying my stories. I’m writing with all of you in mind. In fact, any comments I take into consideration while writing the next book. All of the comments for Never Marry A Warlock helped drive me to revise and include what people wanted in the next eBook. Everyone loved Jeff. So there is more. People want the epic spell battle. Believe me, it’s coming. But as they say, you’ve got to save the best for last. The fun part about all this is I get to talk to people. I love hearing from people that have read my book and really, I take what you say to heart. Love you all. You keep me going.
