The Alliance, Book 2
Kali Parks is a shadow in the war
between two factions that are fighting to gain control of Chicago. Born and
raised on the streets, she stands as a silent sentinel at her brother’s side as
he battles to gain control. She will do whatever it takes to bring peace to
those she has pledged her life to protect, including fighting against the
creatures that came to their world almost six years before.
Razor, a councilman for the Alliance,
has been sent to oversee the remaining Trivator troops on Earth and make sure
the transition for the induction of Earth into the Alliance goes smoothly. He
is the one the Alliance calls when they have a situation that needs to be
resolved once and for all. His reputation for dealing with difficult rebels is
renowned. He asks no questions and takes no prisoners. His job is to eliminate
all threats to the Alliance.
He finds himself torn between duty and
something he is unfamiliar with, his heart. When a shadow warrior saves his
life and disappears, he discovers his world is no longer as cut and dry as he
thought. The more he learns, the more he discovers he is not immune to the
warrior’s passionate desire to fight to protect her people.
Forced by duty to settle the conflict,
he must decide between the Alliance and his own desire to claim the unwilling
warrior. When the conflict escalates, he does the only thing he can; he makes a
pact with one of the factions in exchange for a prize that will surely cause a
battle of a different kind – the one for his traitorous heart.
Will he be able to claim her before she
escapes from him again? Or worse, will she sacrifice her life to protect those
she loves before he can?
“Hey, is anyone alive in there?” A soft voice called out from behind him. “Oh God!”
Razor turned his head as far as he could but from the position he was in he couldn’t see who had called out. He could only feel it. A deep heat mixed with the pain running through him. Frustrated, he closed his eyes and wrapped his hand around the top of the metal in his leg and pulled in another deep breath in preparation for the pain that would come with removing it.
His eyes jerked open when he felt slender fingers close around his wrist. “Wait,” the husky voice whispered next to his ear. “Let me make sure it didn’t hit an artery. If it did, you’ll be dead before I can get you to safety.”
Razor turned his head and breathed in the sweet scent of wildflowers. A low moan escaped before he could contain it. The heat inside him flared again, rushing through him at such a speed that he had to close his eyes again to calm the dizziness.
“I am dead either way,” he murmured as the metal around them creaked and shifted again.
“Not on my watch you aren’t,” the voice replied with a trace of amusement. “Now, keep your pantyhose on....

Interview:
Please give a warm welcome to Alliance Series author S. E. Smith. Thank you for stopping by today.
What is your favorite part of the Alliance Series?
I think my favorite part is when the couples first meet.
There is just some type of magic in the way the characters interact. The
curiosity, the fear, the determination to do what is right even if it scares
the daylights out of them.
If you were stranded on a desert island which of your
characters do you want by your side?
Trisha Grove! She would have me living in comfort before the
sun set the first night!
If you could be best friends with one of your characters,
who would it be?
Gracie Jones. She is so down to Earth and determined. She is
one friend that would be by your side even if you screwed up.
What inspired you to write your first book?
My husband inspired me to write my first book. He told me I
needed a hobby. What I needed was a way to relax. I have always used
storytelling as a way to help me when I was stressed, tired or bored. Every
night I make up a new story to help me go to sleep. I've done that all my life.
It seemed natural to just write what I was 'seeing'.
What is your favorite book that you wrote?
Lily's Cowboys is probably my favorite because she was my
first book. There is something about Lily that makes me believe. She gave me
the strenght when I didn't believe in myself.
Who or what inspired you to be a writer?
My mom's dad was my biggest inspiration. He died before I
was born in an oil field accident. The times were tough and so was he. But
inside, was a man who could write a beautiful, sensitive poem that told the
story of heartache and pain. When my mom first gave me his poem when I was
about twelve to read. She had found it in a box as she was going through some
paperwork. He told the story of a horrific tornado in Hope, Arkansas.
What is your typical day like?
My typical day up until a week ago was pretty hectic. I wake
between 5-5:30 am; get ready for work, check my emails and do whatever
paperwork I can, then head out for a full day as a Technical Support Specialist
going from school to school repairing equipment, installing software and
troubleshooting issues. I would get home around 4 pm and answer emails before
working on whichever story had claimed my attention. I took out enough time to
fix dinner, clean a bit, maybe mow the yard if it was yard mowing day, before
going back to the story and writing until about 9 pm when I couldn't keep my
eyes open any longer. After two years of working 80+ hours a week, I finally
decided it was time to make a choice. I am now a full time writer who is going
to be using some of that extra time for 'me'
time.
How do you overcome writer’s block?
I don't often have issues with this but when I do, I close
my eyes and ask the characters to talk to me. So far, they've done a peachy job
of it!
Can you share a little of your current work with us?
I've just released two stories: Razor's Traitorous Heart:
The Alliance Book 2 and A Warrior's Heart: Marastin Dow Book 1.1 in the
anthology Alphas Unleashed. Razor's story follows what happens when aliens
answer Earth's message. Razor is brought in to help end the conflicts between
fighting factions who refuse to accept the Alliance. A Warrior's Heart is the
story of two brothers who were kidnapped from Earth when they were young. They
have managed to survive but it has not been easy. Just when they believe their
luck has ended they meet two sisters from a species known as the Marastin Dow.
This story follows their discovery of finding love when they least expect it and
their willingness to fight to keep it.
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your
readers?
If I had one thing to say to my readers it would have to be
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. It is their belief in me and my
characters that helps me continue to have the strenght and courage to write and
share my stories.
Thank you for the giveaway! I wish i can win the book copies!! :)
