Feature & Follow #2: Met a Favorite Author

Feature & Follow is a blog hop hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read, each of whom feature a chosen blog for the week. It is a great way to meet new bloggers, make friends, and get exposure for your own blog.

This weeks Question:

Have you met a favorite author and have a picture? Share.

My author is a college friend, Dave Eggers.  He is also indirectly responsible for me meeting my husband, Tim.

Back in 1996, my roommate Heather dragged me to a party at her boyfriend’s house.   When Tim walked into the apartment about twenty feet away from me, he caught me staring at him.

Tim walked up to me, with a very cocky smile.  I said, “Oh my God, I totally thought you were a friend of mine from college, Dave Eggers.”

Heather who had known Tim for about six months and kept telling him he reminded her of someone yelled out, “That’s who you reminded me of”

Tim’s response was, “So, did you date him?”

I responded with, “He was one of the first people I met at U of I; we had a few classes together; he got me a job working with him as a photographer for the Daily Illini (school newspaper), and we went to a few dances together, we're friends, but I wouldn't say we dated.”

Well, Tim and I have been together ever since.

Funny thing is, around the time A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius came out, a friend of Tim’s from grade school, that also went to the University of Illinois, Kevin Fitzpatrick, read his book.  When he flipped the book over and saw Dave’s photo on the back cover he said, “Oh my God, this guy looks like Lynch!”

So when Kevin saw me next he said, “Hey you were down at U of I the same time as Dave, did you know him?”  Did I mention I’m a cradle robber and that Tim and Kevin are three years younger than me? Tim looks older – that’s all that counts.

When I told Dave the story he gave Tim an autographed book with the inscription, “So I hear we look like brothers.”

While they do look alike from twenty feet away, I don't think they look alike up close, but they could pass for brothers.

  1. What a great story Diane! That's one you can tell forever! :)

I have to tell you, I went out and added you on G+ and I almost couldn't click that button when I saw the Blackhawks jerseys. I'm a Wild fan so you can only imagine how hard it was for me to add you in to my circles regardless! ;) At least you are a hockey fan. That's what's most important....not the team. (even though my heart is still aching today....sniff sniff)

I actually got a different topic because I did my post a few days early this week (guess they changed it on me) so come on by and check it out! I am a new bloglovin follower as well as the G+. :) Have a great weekend!

  2. If it makes you feel any better, we really like the Wild. My son even has multiple Wild t-shirts and Wild autographed pucks. We appreciate all hockey teams (maybe not the Redwings). I'm even the team manager of my son's travel hockey team.

Thanks for stopping by - I followed you on Bloglovin' and G+!

  3. It does make me feel some better. That OT loss was a tough one to take this week. I haven't felt that heartbroken over hockey in quite some time. I have such a love for the sport itself that I just love how passionate the fans are. That's so cool too that you are a hockey mom! It's isn't a very big sport where we are. Wish it was.

Thanks for the follow back! I'm glad we met today!
