Wishing for a towel, he decided to let himself dry off naturally. As he stood in the calm and listened to the water flow, he noticed the sudden silence around him. Too quiet. Not good. As if thinking about trouble conjured it, Fenris suddenly found himself surrounded by unfamiliar wolves, a few foxes and one huge-ass grizzly bear.
“Shit.” Several of the wolves had reddish fur. Red wolves encroaching on his clan’s territory? “What the hell are you assholes doing on Silver land?”
He didn’t expect them to answer, nor was he surprised when they suddenly attacked. Shifting into his wolf, he dodged one set of claws and rammed into another wolf, knocking it back. Teeth tore into his hind leg before he kicked himself free. Turning, he met another pair of attackers and narrowly avoided getting his throat ripped out. With a vicious bite, he ripped into the ear of one wolf and shoved a fox away by gouging down his belly.
Animalistic desire knifed through him. Between one heartbeat and the next, his anger turned to lust. He sprang to his feet and shoved the female down. When she rose, he mounted her, his instinct to mate overriding his senses. Fenris forgot everything but the need to release deeply inside the quivering wolf beneath him.
She barked at the others. Cease. Leave off. This one is mine. Then she pounced and closed her jaws over his throat. Despite the danger of the situation, Fenris sighed with a strange contentment before blackness overtook him.

Other red wolves turned on him, biting and gouging, until he lay covered in blood. Still, the desire inside him throbbed, growing with every painful breath he took of that beautiful, red wolf with the strange, yellow eyes.

Please welcome Enemy Red author Marie Harte to Diane’s Book Blog.
What is your favorite part of the story, Enemy Red?
I love when Fenris and Rudra first come together, intimately. They don’t exactly like each other the first time they meet, because they’re enemies. But they know, deep down, that they belong together. And the sex is instant and explosive.
How long did it take you to write Enemy Red?
I first wrote Enemy Red back in 2009 and the story is short novella. I think it took a few weeks. Now, I could write this in one week, easy. But that’s because I’ve written so much since then that I’m used to how the characters should act, how the pacing flows.
If you could be best friends with one of your characters, who would it be?
I think it would be Rudra. She’s got one foot in the sorcerer world, one in the shapeshifter world. And she’s so strong. I love that she’s alpha of a group of disenchanted, displaced shifters.
What inspired you to write your first book?
I love reading, always have. But the romance books I wanted to read weren’t out there. Back as a girl reading romance, historicals were huge. And in them, all the women were weak. None of them could defend themselves, and no one ever had sex! I wanted kick-butt heroines who weren’t afraid of having sex with hunky heroes.
What is your typical day like?
I grudgingly wake, get the kids off to school, make a pot of coffee, then settle behind my computer. I go through emails and social media first, then start writing, usually by 10AM. I write anywhere from 3-6 hours, unless I’m on a deadline or behind, then I can go as long as 8-9 hours—but that’s an extreme. I like to do at least 5,000 words a day. I’m a fast writer, always have been, so that’s an easy achievement. When I’m good and on schedule, I write Monday through Friday and try to be done before my kids get home. I also like to save the weekends for family time. But when I’m itching to get back a story, I’ll wait until the kids are in bed, then write some more.
