Please welcome Two Renegade Realms author Donita K. Paul to Diane's Book Blog.

How to keep sane when writing a 100,000 word fantasy.

  1. Associate with writer friends who understand the odd circumstance in which you work.
  2. Associate with non-writer friends who don’t understand and therefore require you to exhibit a semblance of sanity. The practice of social skills is good for you.
  3. Don’t talk aloud to the dragons in your head when you are doing things like chopping celery or grocery shopping.
  4. Do talk to all your characters while stewing over a new scene you are writing.
  5. Do not ask the characters’ opinions about any scene in the manuscript.
  6. If a scene has you stymied, go ahead and talk to the characters involved.
  7. Eat regular meals in appropriate intervals.
  8. Don’t drink more than five mugs of coffee or tea in the afternoon.
  9. Don’t put miniature chocolate (bite-size left over from Halloween or Valentine’s) within reach of your computer.
  10. Keep in touch with family and friends, force yourself to recall their current joys and sorrows, develop genuine concern for today’s tribulation, either theirs or yours, pray about it, forget it all and go back to work.

Two Renegade Realms (Realm Walkers #2) by Donita K. Paul Review

Two Renegade Realms (Realm Walkers)Two Renegade Realms by Donita K. Paul
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Two Renegade Realms takes place two years after One Realm Beyond. Cantor, Bixby, and Dukmee are on a quest to find the legendary, Chomountain, and save the realm from an impending attack.

I enjoyed how the characters developed both mentally and physically since the previous book; especially Cantor who seemed to have undergone the most changes. I still appreciate his relationship between him and his dragon Bridger. They have an amusing connection that keeps growing and retains the reader interest. Bridger is such a goof you cannot help but love him.

There was a stretch I felt dragged a little but overall the plot was carefully thought out and original. Towards the end of the novel, it had a more science fiction feel.

Donita K. Paul is an exceptional writer. She has a talent for visualization, symbolism, and creativity.

Two Renegade Realms is a fun book for a young adult or adult. It in an imaginative read with Christian values and beliefs. This is a book that I would encourage my eleven-year-old son and his friends to read. I also think the series would make great movies.

One Realm Beyond (Realm Walkers) by Donita K. Paul Review

One Realm BeyondOne Realm Beyond by Donita K. Paul
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Cantor D Ahma was born with the gift to walk between worlds. He has been training his whole life and is finally on his first Realm Walker assignment alone to find his dragon. While on his mission, Cantor discovers that the Realm Walkers Guild has become corrupt. With the help of new friends, they need to discover a way to uncover the deceit.

I love Donita K. Paul DragonKeeper Series. When I saw that she had a book out to a new series, I had to read it. Once again, she is off to a successful start. One Realm Beyond was a delightful fantasy for all ages. I can see this book in school libraries and having many book reports written about it.

I really like the dragon, Bridger. He is good comic relief throughout the novel. His quirky personality makes him very likable. I also, enjoy Bixby. It will be interesting to see how her relationship with Cantor progresses in the Realm Walkers Series.

If you love fantasies and dragons, One Realm Beyond is for you.
