Happy Howling Holidays Box Set Review

Happy Howling Holidays - Shifters in Love: Romance CollectionHappy Howling Holidays - Shifters in Love: Romance Collection by Harmony Raines, Alisa Woods , Julia Mills , V. Vaughn, Ariana Hawkes, Scarlett Grove, Chloe Cole, Kate Kent , Liv Brywood, Becca Fanning, Emma Alisyn, Kim Faulks, Michele Bardsley, C. E. Black
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love shapeshifter, so this is a great box set to get in the mood for the holidays. Happy Howling Holidays Box Set includes the following books and authors:

Bear in Furry Armor - Emma Alisyn
Bearly Christmas - Becca Fanning
A Roaring Fire - Kim Faulks
Cowboy Bear’s Christmas Surprise - Scarlett Grove
Beary Merry Winter - Kate Kent
Her Dragon’s No Angel - Julia Mills
A True Alpha Christmas - Alisa Woods
The Cowbear’s Christmas Shotgun Wedding - Liv Brywood
Bear My Perfect Gift - Ariana Hawkes
Prey - Chloe Cole
Santa Paws - Harmony Raines
Bear Winter - Michele Bardsley
A Dragon’s Gift - C. E. Black
Andre - V. Vaughn

I haven’t had a chance to read all the books yet, but one of my favorites is A True Alpha Christmas by Alisa Woods. The story takes place after the last book in the True Alpha series. Mia is adjusting to shifter life and trying to balance her human upbringing with her new shifter lifestyle. She is stressing over introducing Lucas to her mother; in addition to not being married to Lucas.

I enjoyed this holiday glimpse of the True Alpha series. I love Mia and Lucas and appreciate hearing more of their story. I liked the cultural differences between Mia’s human and shifter sides. As a lot of cultures, they are different and very similar at the same time. A True Alpha Christmas is a short story that you can easily read in one sitting. It’s a great read to get you in the mood for the holidays.

I love anthologies. They provide you with books by authors you love and introduce you to authors you are not familiar with. Even if one story is unappealing, another will be great. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Kassandra Darkmorré is hiding behind the mask of humanity, living her life as nothing more than a spectator. She watches, knowing the outcome of the lives around her.

They lived.

They died.

While she was left all alone.

She never imagined one of her hospice patients would figure out what she was or ask for an explanation on her death bed. And Kassandra surely didn’t expect the dying woman to give her something she hadn’t had in almost two hundred years. Hope.“What you desire most is achievable. You must accept the invitation when it’s presented.”While on the search for her true desire, she finds the man of her one and only dream, Cyrus Good. The attraction between them is instantaneous, but Kassandra can’t help but feel like something is missing. And that maybe he has secrets as  sinister as Salem itself.

And what about Xavier Drago? The mysterious man keeps popping up when she least expects him to. As annoying and demanding as he is, though, she can’t help but be drawn to him just as intensely.

It all began with an invitation, but will it end with a happily ever after?

Excerpt from Behind The Mask by C.E. Black

Kassandra

I put on my coat, buttoning it up to my chin, and threw a scarf around my neck for good measure. Though the fall night had turned brisk, and the people entering the hospital from outside all wore matching red noses, I didn’t need the coat. But I liked the feeling of being one of them.
Seeing my little friend from earlier that evening waiting on me, I crouched down to get closer and held out my hand. “Hi again, little guy,” I said softly.
He purred as he bumped his onyx-colored head against my hand. Smiling, I rubbed my palm over his soft back. He didn’t have a collar, and though he looked fairly clean I could see his ribs showing, he was so thin. “Are you hungry, boy?” He wrapped around my leg in answer, and I laughed as I scooped him up in my arms. “Then let’s get you something to eat.” I was starving, but my hunger could wait. This guy probably hadn’t seen a decent meal in weeks.
After a stop at the grocery store for all the essentials he might need, I rushed home to my condo. Though in a hurry, I still took the time to fill a bowl with cat food and another with water. While he chowed down, I set up the litter box, and by the time I’d finished I couldn’t ignore the ache any longer.
I pulled the blood bag from my purse, put it in the microwave, then pressed the quick thrity-second button before grabbing a glass out of the cabinet. Warm blood was much more satisfying. Before the microwave dinged, I pulled out the bag and cut open the top with my kitchen shears. My mouth watered as the fresh, metallic scent reached my nostrils, and a small moan squeezed from my lips.
Careful not to spill a drop, I poured the thick red liquid into the glass before tossing the empty bag in the trash. I could have pierced the bag with my teeth, as they had already elongated, ready to feed, but I had the need to do things a more human way. Drinking from the glass made me feel like less of a monster.
As usual, I started off by sipping leisurely, as though it was a fine wine I’d purchased for pleasure, but as the sweet coppery flavor burst over my tongue, my hunger seized control, and the glass was empty less than a second later.
Staring at the thin red film that coated the inside of the glass, I licked my lips. I had the insane idea to use my finger to scrape off every last bit. Not a good sign.
Feeling eyes on me, I turned to find the cat sitting next to his empty bowls, watching me. If I didn’t know better, I’d say he looked curious, maybe even a bit anxious. “Don’t worry, boy. You have nothing to fear from me.” I could have sworn he nodded before he stalked out of the room.
Shaking my head, I rinsed out the glass, breathing a sigh of relief when it was clear of all blood. “Not classy, Kassandra,” I said to myself. I hadn’t been feeding enough, but how could I justify taking another’s source of life? These bags of blood would save a human life. At as little as one a week, that was fifty-two deaths a year I could potentially cause.
It was bad enough the donor center was amidst a shortage. The possibility that my necessary feeding habit would cause issues had guilt eating away at me. But it was better than taking from the source. I’d never do that. Never again.

C.E. Black self-published her first book in 2011 and has since published several novels, novellas, and short stories. Though she began her writing career in the Paranormal Romance genre, she found her niche in erotic PNR/Fantasy with her breakout novel, Shifted Temptations. What started out as a standalone romance, became the Amazon best selling Alpha Division series. Though steamy romance, hunky heroes, and feisty heroines are C.E.'s specialty, she enjoys surprising her readers with action-filled plots and exciting twists that makes for a fast-paced read.

Shifted Under Construction by C.E. Black: Giveaway

Title: Shifted Under Construction (Bad Boy Alphas)

Author: C.E. Black

Genre: Paranormal/Fantasy Romance

Publisher: Secret Quill Press

ShiftedUnderconstructionCover
Bedroom eyes and rock hard abs make for yummy eye candy, but Harper Mattox knows a bad boy when she sees him. She’s been there, done that, and refuses to buy the T-shirt. The scar was enough of a souvenir.
When Harper agrees to be the temporary secretary at H&V Construction as a favor to her best friends’ husband, Adam Hughes, she thought her days would be spent behind the desk, organizing until her heart was content. She had no idea she’d have to put up with the walking sex-on-a-stick Christian Viera. AKA, her other boss. No matter how many times she turned him down, he just oozed more charm in her direction, weakening her knees, as well as her resolve. And it was only her first day!
A threat on Harper’s life has Chris ready and willing to protect her, showing off an animalistic side she never knew existed. She’s known violence in her past and has no room for it in her life now. Is the fiery passion between them enough to stick it out? Can she accept him? Fur, claws, fangs, and all?

Smiling politely, I stood to walk around the desk. “Hi, I’m Harper Mattox,” I said, extending my hand. “You must be Mr. Viera.”

“Ah, yes, I forgot Adam said the new secretary was starting today. Call me, Chris.”
As he placed his large, calloused hand in mine, I held back the pleasant, yet surprising shiver his touch elicited.

“Glad you joined us. Adam was going crazy looking for someone to help out around here.”
“It’s just temporary.”

“Temporary?” He grinned. “I guess a beautiful lady like yourself doesn’t want to work in a place so…” he glanced around the room before locking gazes with mine again. “Dirty.”

“Um…” My cheeks heated momentarily. “Well, actually, I already have a job. I just told Nikki I’d help out Adam for the summer.”

Nikki was Adam’s wife and my best friend. The two of them had been there for me during my time of need. Or, at least they were when I’d finally let them. Stepping into a secretary’s shoes for the summer was the least I could do.

“Really? What do you do?”

“Teach,” I said

The soft tingling on the back of my hand alerted me to the fact that he still held my hand, sending another round of warmth to climb up my neck. My gaze locked with his as his grip held on to my hand even as I let go. My eyes widened a fraction at the way he was blatantly checking me out. Slowly, his gaze ran over me from head to toe, lingering on my lips and throat. And of course, he stared the longest on my abundant cleavage. My top covered me completely, but with these puppies, there was no hiding what was hidden beneath my clothes. I was used to them being ogled. And I hated it. Especially when they realized that with large breasts came large everything else.

Yanking my hand out of his, I held a tight smile in place as I backed up a couple of paces. The man made the empty room feel crowded. No wonder he had women problems. That charming smile of his probably had their panties dropping everywhere he went. I had no doubt he took advantage, leaving a trail of broken hearts in his wake.

“Are you looking for Mr. Hughes?” I asked, clearing my throat. “He stepped out, but should be back shortly.”

“Yes, I was looking for Adam, but you were much more pleasant to find.”

He stepped into my personal space, causing me to back up until my butt hit the desk.
“W—what are you doing?”

“Asking you out.” He smiled. “What do you say, Harper? Go out to dinner with me.”

“What? No.” I shook my head. “I don’t even know you.”

When he didn’t reply right away, I glanced up and wished I hadn’t. Bedroom eyes. That’s what he looked at me with. Lowered lids, dark and lustful, they conveyed his thoughts as clearly as if I could read his mind.

“Hmm, do you want to get to know me? Cause I sure as hell want to get to know you.”

Shifted Under Construction (Bad Boy Alphas) by C.E. Black Review

Shifted Under Construction (Bad Boy Alphas)Shifted Under Construction by C.E. Black
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

C. E. Black’s Shifted Under Construction is an action filled and exciting read. Teacher Harper Mattox takes a summer job at her best friend’s husband’s, Adam Hugh company, H&V Construction. The last thing Harper wants is to get involved with another bad boy; that includes Adam’s business partner and Harper’s boss, Christian Viera, who is very persistent.

C. E. Black does a great with her characters. Harper has been through a difficult situation and is trying to be smart about not repeating her past mistakes. Due to Christian’s lifestyle, he does not want to get involved in a relationship, only having one (maybe two) night stands. That hasn’t been a problem until he meets the intriguing Harper. The two have great chemistry. Donnie makes a considerable antagonist. He is a bully and easy to dislike.

I like how the story started off and ended in a similar yet different situation. It is amazing how the same task can be so altered by the people it involves. The story is a fast read with some unexpected twists. This was the first book I read in the Alpha Division Series. I had no problem following the story. It did make me curious read Nikki’s and Adam’s story Shifted Undercover. This is a great read for people that enjoy adult PNR that includes mystery and action.

Complimentary copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
