Ivy Fox gets a hat trick with book three in the Puckered Hearts series, PENALTY TO THE HEART. This is Boston Guardians' goalie Caleb Donovan’s and in-house therapist Dr. Roxanne Seymour’s story. The novel takes place after book two, POWER PLAY RIVALS. At the end of that story, Caleb and his brother/team captain Jack, are in a car accident. Jack is in a coma, and Caleb is struggling with guilt.
Ivy Fox does an amazing job with this story. It is heartfelt and emotional. Roxanne is tasked with helping prevent Caleb from self-sabotaging himself. Caleb is suffering from survivors’ guilt. She had suffered a loss in the past that allowed her to empathize with him. They begin to grow feelings for one another but Roxanne is struggling with the ethics of a relationship due to her job.
PENALTY TO THE HEART is skillfully written and thought-provoking. The characters are dynamic and likeable. It is an excellent addition to the Puckered Hearts series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy this book.
