Defending (Portland Icehawks #2) by Jami Davenport Review

DefendingDefending by Jami Davenport
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Jami Davenport scores with DEFENDING (Portland Icehawks #2). Grady Jefferson was not thrilled about being acquired by the Portland Icehawks in the expansion draft. He has a history with the hockey coach, Duke (Jeffs) Jefferson, his estranged father. The only thing that keeps him going is artist Aspen Bedford. The two share a connection of having a missing loved one: Aspen’s mom went missing two years prior. Grady’s sister went missing six years ago.

DEFENDING is a heart felt read. The characters are likable. My heart went out to them. Grady feels guilt for his sister's loss. He is struggling on the team and with his defensive partner. Aspen has been searching for her mom and has been trying to get by. She is a talented artist. The two confide in each other and support one another.

DEFENDING is a skillfully written addition to the Portland Icehawks series. It was attention-grabbing and thought-provoking. I’m looking forward to Briggs’ and Michella’s story, ROUGHING. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
