Brenda Rothert & Kat Mizera are on a winning streak with HARD LUCK (St. Louis Mavericks Hockey #4). Lucy Cain flees Spokane Washington to escape her ex-boyfriend. She stops in St. Louis to visit her brother Sawyer, who recently lost his wife Annie to cancer. She befriends his teammate goalie Konstantin (Kon) Volkov, who helps her with her brother. However, danger follows Lucy, and Kon becomes very protective of her.
HARD LUCK is an amazing story. The plot is interesting, and it is full of action. Kon is from Russia. He had a difficult childhood. His ex cheated on him with a teammate. Lucy discovered her ex wasn’t who she thought, and he is after her. Top that off with Sawyer spiraling over his wife’s death. There is a lot going on. The novel was heartfelt and emotional.
HARD LUCK is an excellent addition to the St. Louis Mavericks Hockey series. I like how characters from the previous book were integrated throughout this book. It was skillfully written and believable. I am looking forward to the next book in the series, HARD HIT. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
