My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Kat Mizera hits it in the net with SLAP SHOT (Lauderdale Knights #1). Hockey star Vaughn Elliott was traded to the Lauderdale Knights expansion team. On the first home game of the season, his puck goes into the crowd hitting season-ticket holder, Julliet Cicero, in the head: giving her post-traumatic amnesia. Vaughn visits Julliet in the hospital. The two immediately clique, but she is engaged. He continues to visit her in the hospital, and they form a friendship.
I like Julliet. She is the youngest and only girl in a large Italian family. Her family can be overbearing and controlling. After being hit in the head, she begins to stand up for herself. Vaughn is a good guy. He was raised by his by his departed mother. He hasn’t heard from his father in years, and now he is trying to come back into Vaughn's life. Vaughn is reluctant to trust him. Julliet and Vaughn are dynamic characters. They grow a lot during this story and make each other stronger.
Kat Mizera does a fabulous job with this story. I thought it was creative how the characters met. The novel had interesting scenarios and outcomes. SLAP SHOT is an excellent foundation to the Lauderdale Knights series. I’m looking forward to Jude’s and Chloe’s story in book two, BIG SHOT. Followers of Kat Mizera will want to read this series. I recommend this book to people who enjoy hockey romances. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
