My rating: 5 of 5 stars
L.A. Witt scores with AFTERMATH (Vino & Veritas #5). Hockey star, Brent Weyland moves back home to Burlington, Vermont after suffering a career-ending injury. He has become a hermit until a friend dragged him out to Vino & Veritas. There he meets singer, Jon Norquist. Both men are going through life-changing events. They both have been lacking in human contact and decide to become friends with benefits. Somewhere along the way they develop feeling for each other and have multiple obstacles to face.
AFTERMATH is a heartfelt and emotional read. Jon Norquist is a recently divorced dad. He is a massage therapist. I like that he can empathize with Brent due to understanding his patients struggles. Brent is twenty-nine years old but feels more like ninety. The injury left him in bad shape and Brent struggles dealing with his new reality. Add to that his father who does not understand that his career is over. He has a lot of stress in his life.
I love how the men despite being different could relate to each other. They are the perfect support for each other in their difficult times. I love Jon’s son and the dogs. I have only read one other book by L.A. Witt. I really enjoyed her writing style. AFTERMATH is a wonder fit in Sarina Bowen’s world of True North. I recommend this book to people who enjoy sports/music romances. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
