My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Kay Gordon lights the lamp with GAME WINNING GOAL (425 Madison #23). In this story, injured hockey player on the New York Titans, Kamden Matlock (Mats), meets season-ticket holder Dr. Cheyenne York at a game. The two hit it off but face a few obstacles along the way. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for adult readers. It takes place in New York.
This is the first book that I have read by both Kay Gordon and in the 425 Madison series. After reading this book I want to pick up Savannah’s and Porter’s story, TWO FOR HOLDING (425 Madison #4).
Cheyenne is a likeable heroine. She is a pediatric doctor. She loves hockey and knows a lot about the sport. She had a crush on Mats but did not recognize him when she met him due to his overgrown beard. I like that she was herself around him and did not act star-stuck. Mats is a good guy. He is smart. His undergraduate degree is in mathematics. He is introverted. Coming off an injury, his confidence is down. The two make a great couple. They are good for each other, making each other stronger.
GAME WINNING GOAL was skillfully written and entertaining throughout. I enjoyed Kay Gordon’s writing style and would read more books by her in the future. I recommend this story to people who enjoy heartfelt sports romances. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
