Jami Davenport gets a touchdown with HOT READ: THE ORIGINALS (Seattle Steelheads #5). Backup quarterback Brett Gunnels gets a shot at being starting quarterback during the playoffs. Meanwhile, he is falling in love with the current starting quarterback’s sister, Estelle (Estie) Harris. Unfortunately, she is engaged. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for adult readers.
Jami Davenport does a fantastic job with this story. I love the characters. Being an animal lover, I related to both Estie and Brett. Our house is a zoo, so I could easily picture their environments. Brett suffers from PTSD after serving in the Army in Afghanistan. He is a good guy who has been underestimated. Brett needs to build his confidence before the playoffs. Estie is a sweet heroine. She is the sister of quarterback Tyler Harris (SNAP DECISION, Seattle Steelheads Football #2). She is a pleaser, often stuck in the middle of her siblings. Her Fiancé, Richard Michaels, was totally wrong for her. I am glad Brett came into the picture. They are perfect for one another. They face multiple complicated situations throughout the novel that keep the story riveting.
I love all the animals in the story. They had unique traits that said a lot for Estie and Brett. Brett’s African Gray parrot, Bongo, was entertaining. I found it amusing that Tyler corrupted his vocabulary.
HOT READ is a perfect addition to the Seattle Steelheads series. It was skillfully written and thought-provoking. I recommend this novel to people who enjoy football romances and/or animals. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
