Skirting the Ice by Jennie Marts
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Jennie Marts scores with SKIRTING THE ICE, the third book in The Bannister Brothers series. Accountant Jack Bannister’s childhood crush, Murphy Ryan, moves back to town to help develop a new professional woman’s hockey team. Meanwhile, a stalker followed Murphy to Colorado. This contemporary romance is suitable for new/adult audiences.
Jack and Murphy are great characters. They seem like opposites but do have a lot in common. Jack is smart. He is great with computers and math. Having two brothers in the NHL he is constantly down on himself for being the nerdy brother with asthma. Murphy is a talented hockey player. She was introduced to the sport by the Bannister family. Jack and Murphy are a cute couple. They were each other first crush; neither having a clue that the other one liked them. They care about each other. They make each other laugh.
I love that Jack and Murphy both have Shetland Collies. The dogs are cute and make good companions. I like how Jack and Murphy are reunited the first time in the book because of the dogs.
This is the first book that I have read by Jennie Marts. After reading this novel, I am interested in reading the previous books in the series. The Bannisters are a wonderful family. I like how they all band together to help Murphy. I enjoyed the stalker aspect of the story. All the ways that Jack points out that a person can track you on the Internet were interesting and scary. SKIRTING THE ICE was an entertaining story. It had humor, suspense, romance, and drama. The plot was intriguing. The characters faced obstacles that made them grow. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
