Heat It Up (Off the Ice #1) by Stina Lindenblatt Review

Heat It UpHeat It Up by Stina Lindenblatt
My rating: 4 1/2 of 5 Stars

Stina Lindenblatt scores with Heat It Up the first book in the Off the Ice Series. Sofia Phillips decides to visit her grandmother and accept a summer work-exchange program in Finland after her boyfriend cheats on her. She wants nothing to do with dating. Her grandmother continually tries to set her up with her friend’s grandson. Sophia meets, former NHL star, Kyle Bennett, who pretends to be her boyfriend in hoped that her grandmother will back off on the matchmaking. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for new adult audiences.

Stina Lindenblatt does a great job with her character development and plot. I could empathize with Sophia and her communication issues with her grandmother. My grandparents lived in Hungary, so I experienced similar communication and ethnic differences that she did. The scenario seemed extremely believable. I felt bad for Sophia that her work exchange wasn’t what she was expecting’ at least some positive things happened for her in the story.

I liked Kyle’s character. My heart went out to him for everything he went through. He is a good guy and coach. I loved his physics scenarios. My son plays hockey. Anytime he had to do a science project it relates to hockey, so I appreciate Kyle’s physic conversations, even though his friend Nik says, “it’s boring.”

I enjoyed the chemistry of the characters. They both showed growth throughout the story. The plot had some interesting twists. The novel held me captivated from begin to end. I look forward to reading the next book in the Off The Ice Series.
