Enlightenment (The Driel Trilogy Book 1) by Liz Keel Review

Enlightenment (The Driel Trilogy Book 1)Enlightenment by Liz Keel
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Liz Keel’s Enlightenment is a fantastic start to the Driel Trilogy. Thea Driel thought she was human until she was attacked and needed to find refuge in the Faey realm. Now at the age of seventeen, she is entering the age of Enlightenment, when she discovered which elements, she wields. Meanwhile, elves are disappearing and Thea is determined to find out why. This fantasy novel takes place is the kingdom of Aroben. This story is suitable for young adults.

The characters are great. I like Thea. Her world is turned upside-down, but she handles it with strength and grace. She is determined and smart. She got extra cool points because she played hockey – okay it’s only mentioned once in the story but still. I appreciated Eli. He has been a good friend to Thea. They have a comfortable relationship having known each other for almost all of her life. I enjoyed the chemistry between Thea and Isaac. Minen made an interesting adversary. He is one twisted individual.

I enjoyed the plot. It is full of conspiracy and twists. I like that the elves' history is mentioned. The environment is skillfully described and easy to visualize. The story flows well. There is never a dull moment. The ending was well resolved, while still leaving enough to make you want to read the next book.
