The Athlete’s Cookbook: The Favorite Recipes of Red Bull Athletes, Prepared at Hangar-7 by Matthias Nelke, Marc Eggers, Lara Soenmezay

The Athlete's Cookbook: The Favorite Recipes of Red Bull Athletes, Prepared at Hangar-7 by Matthias Nelke
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I like Felix Baumgartner’s introduction. It put a smile on my face. I also liked that the book starts with photos of the athletes with their sport and favorite meal listed. The photography throughout the book is impressive. This could really be a coffee-table book for your kitchen. It is well designed with some fascinating fact about each athlete. I enjoyed the athlete interviews and information that are included. The meals are great. I like that the measurements are listed in both metric system and in the imperial system. I appreciate that each recipe notes the following: the time it takes to cook the meal, rank of the difficulty of preparing the meal, and provides professional tips and tricks.

I’m Hungarian and Austrian, so I enjoyed that athletes from those countries are included in the book. My favorite sport is ice hockey. My son plays travel hockey. He is actually the reason this cookbook caught my eye. He is really big with only wanting to eat healthy in order to help him with his game. I thought this book would give us some great suggestions of new meals to make. Needless to say, it is nice that two hockey players are included in this book. Of course, they ended up liking sushi, which I am not a fan of. I don’t know what it is with hockey players and sushi. I was happy that Hungarian aerobatic pilot, Peter Besenyei, was included. I have watched him fly; he is impressive. I was excited to see that his preferred meal is Rakott Krumpli. It is one of my favorite Hungarian dishes. He makes it different than I do. It is an interesting alternative. I’m looking forward to trying out the recipes in the book.
