Playmaker: A Baltimore Banners Intermission Novella by Lisa B. Kamps
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Let me start out by saying I think it is great that all the proceeds from the Seduced by the Game Cancer Charity Collection are donated to support cancer research and patient care.
Lisa B. Kamps’ Playmaker is a wonderful addition to the Baltimore Banners Series. The story has an excellent balance of hockey, romance, and drama. NHL star, Derek Caulton has always had everything come easy to him. That is until he meets Banner’s Ice Crew member Bridget Lloyd.
Regardless of being a short story, the characters are remarkably well developed; especially Derek who seems to grow the most in the novella. I like Derek. He is confident and cocky. I like that once he is called out on his actions, he does something about it instead of giving up and moving on. You cannot help but love Bridget. She has had a difficult upbringing and wants to give back to the community and help less fortunate children by becoming a social worker. I appreciated that she hides her appearance behind baggy clothes but that Derek took notice.
The plot was believable and well executed. The story flowed skillfully and kept me engaged throughout the entire story. My only complaint about this book is that I did not want it to end. I want to hear more about Derek and Bridget. Hint…hint…Lisa…hint..hint… Okay, I know it’s a novella and meant to be short, but I really enjoyed this story and want more. Thank goodness it is part of the Baltimore Banners Series and the two are bound to pop up again.
