The Final Move by Victoria Denault
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
NHL star Devin Garrison’s marriage falls apart; meanwhile his childhood friend, Callie Caplan’s, job relocates her to his area. She helps him cope with starting over.
Victoria Denault scores a hat trick with The Final Move, the third book in the Hometown Players Series!
I love the Hometown Players Series and everything about it: The Garrison boys, the Caplan girls, hockey, romance, humor, drama, you name it.
Devin is the most competitive of the Garrison boys; failure is not an option. Therefore, going through a divorce hit him extremely hard. While he comes from a loving family that would always support him, I get why he would not want to tell them about his situation. I’m glad fate had Callie come back into his life at this time. She is great with his son, Conner, and helps him manage.
Callie is Devin’s opposite. No picket fence for her, she never wants to get married. She is a one-night-stand kind of girl. She has been let down by her parents and grandmother. Despite having a wonderful relationship with her sisters and being taken under the wing of the Garrison family, she does not have faith in relationships. She has a great personality. I adore that she loves “Don’t Stop Believin” by Journey. It is such a great song. She clearly has excellent taste.
The plot is realistic and heartfelt. I appreciate that the past characters play a vital role in this story. While you could follow The Final Move on its own, I would definitely read the books in order. You will not get lost, but the story will mean more. The Final Move is a great book for anyone who loves contemporary sports romances.
