Please welcome Reign of the Vampires author Rebekah R. Ganiere to Diane’s Book Blog.
What is your favorite part of the story, Reign of the Vampires?
My couple. I love Mason and Danika. I love their story and their backgrounds.
How long did it take you to write Reign of the Vampires?
A month. Yup. I can write most books in a month. It then took me over a year to edit it.
If you were stranded on a desert island which of your characters do you want by your side?
Dax the werebear from my Fairelle Series. He is tough, sweet, and very resourceful.
If you could be best friends with one of your characters, who would it be?
Snow from Snow the Vampire Slayer. She is tough as nails but has the heart of an angel.
What inspired you to write your first book?
I heard there were no good zombie romances and I thought there was a pretty decent reason! A zombie romance would be gross! But the idea wouldn't leave me so I thought about what it would take for a zombie romance to work for me and then I did that.
What is your favorite book that you wrote?
Oh man. That's really hard. I love each of my books in different ways. Probably Snow the Vampire Slayer. Book two in my Fairelle Series. It was just… I don't know. It was different.
Who or what inspired you to be a writer?
I love to write. Always have. I went to college for theater and then couldn't do it anymore once I started having kids. So this to me is like theater, only I get to create the characters that I want and watch them act out the parts.
What books have most influenced your life?
Most influenced as a person? My scriptures. The bible and Book of Mormon. As a writer? Alice in Wonderland, Dragonlance and Midnight Breed Series. They truly inspire me.
What's your favorite book-turned movie?
Ugh… I really don't have one that I love. I think Marvel has done a great job with the comic book movies. X-men especially. Lord of the Rings was well done as well. Not so much The Hobbit.
Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
I have too many to name. I am seriously in awe of Tolkien and Lewis. The depths that their work goes to are just amazing. They're world building is fantastic and their characters are epic.
What is your typical day like?
I get up at 7:30 and lay around till 8. Then I get moving and get my kids started homeschooling. I then write while they do school work until about 11. They take a break and I do to. Then we all get back to it till 2 or 3. And then it's auditions, competition dance, fencing, gymnastics, parkour, aeriel classes, art classes, science classes, violin, piano and acting classes M-F till about 8:30 pm. Then chores, prayers, teeth brushed and kids in bed so I can write till about 11.
How do you overcome writer’s block?
I bounce things off my husband and a couple of amazing critique partners. One of which is Fantastic with ideas!
Can you share a little of your current work with us?
Right now I'm working on a YA sci-fi about a girl who doesn't know that she's a princess hiding on Earth.
What book are you reading now?
I'm reading The Mortal Instruments for the second time as well as several books on writing.
What do you prefer paperback, hardcover, or ebooks?
Paperback. I hate messing up the jackets on hardcovers and I don't care too much for reading on an e-reader. Though it is quite convenient when I'm out and about.
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Thank you for reading. Thank you for your words of encouragement and love. I love hearing from you. Read for pleasure, Read for fun!
