Hello!  Thanks for having me here today, and thank you for supporting the Inherited Damnation series release!

I’ve done some discussions on several topics related to the series, but one thing I’ve not really talked about is where the idea came from; what prompted it, etc.  Have you ever been sitting around and something just grabbed hold of your imagination, and all of a sudden the snippet of conversation, the scene on the t.v., or the sign on the roadside took on new meaning?

Inherited Damnation was a lot like that for me.  I was sitting around, working on edits for Immortal Hope, and a friend of mine was working on a Roman historical fiction. (J.F. Ridgley, check her out!)  I’d spent the whole day at her house talking Celt lore and how it applied to her book.  (And marveling at the koi in her pond, but that’s a different story.)

She mentioned something to the effect of a lost tribe.  In this weird flash, I got scenes in my head of an old King Arthur movie where he was theorized to have been Pict.  Blue face paint, feathers, fur, wild hair…that all blended with another thought, something I’d recently read about the Wicker Men in Druidic lore.

J.F. handed me a book that she’d marked up about the Celts, prompting me to read something as it related to her book, and what I read had nothing to do with what we were talking.  I was already down the path of a powerful Druid priestess controlled by something else, sacrifice—how could I pull off sacrifice in a positive light for a positive character?  A demonic influence that’s how.

One thing led to another, and by the time I left, I had the bare bones of what would end up being the eight-book series.  In Destined to Die, the book that released this week, Belen is a darker sibling, not entirely opposed to his half-demon blood.  That was a first for me, honestly.  I didn’t want yet another brooding ‘baddie’ who condemned himself for what he was…not until something came along that mattered enough for him to view himself differently.  That something was as opposite as I could possibly craft: a sweet, soul-saving, social worker who is so very Miss Melly sometimes I felt like I was channeling Margaret Mitchell.

But here’s a secret I’ve not let out of the bag.  The entire series was written for Taran.  He was the first character who popped into my mind.  Everything else, everyone else, flowed out from there.

That night, I broke open my own historical accounts about the Celts.  I sat and compared what we know today of Pagan rites to what was theorized about rites of old.  I merged and tinkered…and spent too much time trying to do backward math on who was born when and AD to BC calculations.  I plotted out and planned personalities based on the point in the wheel of the year when each was born.

And from there, it was all a downward spiral into the eight books, all leading to my favorite character’s story.  So in a nutshell, it all triggered with one harmless conversation between two authors over something that should have had very little to do with paranormal writing.  But darn that J.F., she just had to mention a tribe vanished, and she pulled the trigger on my creativity.  In hindsight, I’m glad she did!

So tell me, if you will, about some time your imagination ran away with you.  Did something go bump in the night and you spooked yourself?  Did you witness a kiss that stayed with you?  I know we’ve all experienced it, and I’d love to hear your experiences.
