Claire Ashgrove's Inherited Damnation Release Extravaganza: Interview & Giveaway

INHERITED DAMNATION

INHERITED DAMNATION is an 8 book paranormal romance series being released as one book every three weeks between January 27th and June 23rd, 2015.

Damned at birth, eight immortal children of a high priestess are compelled to kill the one that holds their heart. They can never fall in love. Driven by the need to finally destroy their evil sire and break the curse, each struggles to balance their desire for innocence against the dark needs of their conflicted souls.

The series contains mythos shared between the volumes, but each book stands on its own with a newly featured couple.

The first volume, Cursed to Kill, is available now!

Cursed to Kill
INHERITED DAMNATION Book #1

One of eight children born to an ancient Celtic priestess and sired by a demonic incubus, Cian McLaine suffers from a centuries-old curse. Though his immortality allows him to enjoy the pleasures of mortal life, he is plagued by the desire to kill. As long as he doesn't fall in love he can keep the compulsion at bay.

When Cian walked into her rare bookstore months ago, Miranda Phillips never imagined she'd lose her heart to the handsome playboy. Her reward for doing so was abandonment. Cian left as mysteriously as he appeared, in the middle of the night with no explanation, no goodbye. Now he's back, and passion flares just as hot. But Cian has secrets. If Miranda is to survive, she must uncover the truth and free his darkened soul.

Interview

Please welcome Inherited Damnation author Claire Ashgrove to Diane’s Book Blog.

What is your favorite part of the story, Inherited Damnation Tormented by Darkness?

My very favorite part is when Mick lets down his guard and really shows himself, the man behind the badge.  He tries so hard to be strong and stalwart throughout, but here we get to see his human side even if it is unmasked by some scotch.  It’s a turning point for both Rhiannon and Mick, and the connection between them is so strong.

How long did it take you to write Inherited Damnation Tormented by Darkness?

A few weeks.  I wrote most of the books in a very short time span, back to back.

If you were stranded on a desert island which of your characters do you want by your side?

While Rhiannon and Mick are both meritable—Rhiannon can heal, Mick can protect—I think I’d have to go with Brigid from Enslaved by Fear – the seventh book in the Inherited Damnation series.  She’s just dark enough that she wouldn’t hesitate to do whatever needs to be done to survive.  Of course, that might mean offing me if needbe – LOL.  I’ll have to trust she wouldn’t.

If you could be best friends with one of your characters, who would it be?

From this series, I’d have to go with Daire, who is witty, sarcastic, stubborn, and incredibly entertaining.  We have a great deal in common so we’d get along pretty well.  Minus that part where he’s half demon, of course.

What inspired you to write your first book?

I don’t really know.  I’ve always written—my first book was finished at 17, a historical romance.  I’m old now, and my memory is pretty terrible, so I can’t really name what inspired me to write.  I read like a fiend though!

What is your favorite book that you wrote?

Oh, this is hard.  I actually have three. One that I’ve not sold yet, a historical romance.  A Broken Christmas is one of my very favorites, and the upcoming Tori St. Claire, Shatter Me, because that heroine is the strongest woman I’ve ever encountered.

Who or what inspired you to be a writer?

Johanna Lindsey!  At least in so much as writing in novel form and writing romance.

What books have most influenced your life?

The Grapes of Wrath, anything Faulkner, Gone With the Wind, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Charlotte’s Web, and anything DragonLance.  Also, North and South (the entire series) and Little Women.

What's your favorite book-turned movie?

Hm.  Do comics qualify, ‘cause X-Men and Iron Man are pretty awesome.  Actually, that’s hard to answer because what I like to read isn’t necessarily what I like to watch.  I’m big on ‘depth’ in novels, but when it comes to movies, I favor heavy action.

Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

William Faulkner.  Anyone who can compose an entire chapter that says only, “My mother is a fish.” and simultaneously accomplish about four different layers with those five words, is a genius.  I’m also pretty fond of his generally long and complicated sentences.

What is your typical day like?

Pretty mundane, actually.  I get up and get kids to school, return and take care of chickens, dogs, cats, ducks and one very spoiled pig, then telecommute to work for half the day, then pick up children.  We do more chores after school, then it’s on to dinner, and after dinner, homework, and then I write or edit until the wee hours of morning.

How do you overcome writer’s block?

I don’t tend to have writer’s block.  My stories are outlined pretty firmly before I start writing and I know pretty much where I’m going and how I’m getting there.  If it’s a struggle for precise words, I push through and return and review later.

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

I have two current works, actually.  One as Tori St. Claire and one as Sophia Garrett.  The Tori book is a Brazen by Entangled, and really hits on how sometimes to have what you most need and want everything around you must be torn apart.  The Sophia Garrett story is set in 1830’s England and centers on the lives of the working class in the small, country village of Sharrington.  The hero has served time; the heroine is his employee in the woolen mill.

What book are you reading now?

I just finished the latest book by DK Holmberg – fantastic fantasy!!

What do you prefer paperback, hardcover, or ebooks?

I’m not really an ebook reader. Most of my books I buy in hardcover for “shelf presence”, but paperback is more comfortable to read.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Thank you.  I know that sounds a bit trite, but you’ve stayed with me through many series, through different genres, and even through delays.  I appreciate your enthusiasm for my stories more than you’ll ever fully realize.
