World Change
by Maggie

BLURB:
Clare
gets transported from present day Florence to an alternate world, one that
looks like fourteenth century Italy. The only way back is through a portal half
a world away, plus the local High priestess wants her dead, and the only one
she can trust is a vampire called Trevi. He is the only one who exits in this
world, and she knows more about what he is than he does. He is hard to resist,
especially when he saves her life. Trevi can take her home but he is keeping
one big secret. She will have to be like him to survive the journey through the
portal back to her world making a myth a reality.
Excerpt:
They were high above a city. She hated heights. The flying
man appeared human as only two arms carried her and she couldn't see any wings.
There wasn't enough light to make out his appearance.
Clare gripped on tight as she took a look at what was below.
The city looked like Florence but different. There were no cars and they must
be having a power cut because the streetlights were all out. Flying over the
rooftops she could see well-lit courtyards where people gathered, but they were
all in costume.
The two moons came out from behind a cloud and the moonlight
enabled her to get a better look at the man who held her. He had fangs, like a
vampire. Maybe the soldiers with the swords might have been a better option. If
this guy wanted to bite her, she had nowhere to go but fall to her death. She
thought about screaming again, but how would the people below get to her. What
if they were like the soldiers?
He didn't stop in the city but kept flying. It became so
dark below she couldn't make anything out. Finally, they landed through
treetops into a small glade. He let her feet drop so she could stand but her
legs gave way. He picked her up again and gently placed her next to a tree. The
moonlight hardly penetrated through the treetops, and she couldn't tell if he
still had fangs.
Character Interview
Please welcome Trevi from Maggie Mundy's World Change.
What is your name? Do you have a nickname?
My name is Trevi. Clare says there is a fountain in her world called the same. She said people throw coins in the fountain in hope that they might return. I hope one day we shall go there together. I don’t have a nickname but I have been called bloodsucker on occasion. Clare’s name for what I am is vampire.
What is your hair color? Eye color?
I have shoulder length brown hair. My eyes are blue in color but when the bloodlust takes me they become white. I fear I scared Clare the first time she saw it happen. Plus my fangs gave her a bit of a shock. She thought I was make believe.
How old are you?
That is a tricky one. From what I can tell I am about eighty years old. My body has stopped aging though. I would say I probably look about twenty seven summers. I never knew my mother but was told she was human. I was in growing in her womb and was changed by a bloodsucker from another world. That is probably why I age differently.
Where were you born? Where have you lived since then? Where do you currently call home?
I was born in the capital and lived with the High Priestess for many years. Recently I lived with my servant Hyfa in or own simple villa. Now Clare and I live on the road. We are hunted and must try and leave this world.
Who are the people you are closest to?
When I was young I was close to the High Priestess Sari. Then I learned that she was lying to me. For many years the only person I trusted was my servant Hyfa. Now I have Clare and my best friend Luca. I can’t imagine life without them.
Who is your funniest friend?
Luca. He is young and handsome and believes every young woman is interested in him. I can’t wait until he meets his match. I shall laugh long and hard.
What is your biggest fear?
That Sari will win and I will lose Clare. I fear that I would be lost in my grief and unleash my anger on this world. I fear I could become worse than Sari.
What or who is the greatest love of your life?
Clare. She is the most amazing woman. She is strong and accepts whatever is thrown at her. I have been an abomination for so long, living off the blood of others. I am still humbled by her love for me.
Which living person do you most despise?
High Priestess Sari. She killed Clare’s sister and lives off the essence of offworlders she brings through her portal. She will kill anyone who stands in her way.
What is your greatest regret?
I have killed so many people over the years. I try to live on animal blood now but if my friends are threatened and the bloodlust takes over, I find it hard to stop. I wish I could undo the past.
What do you most value in your friends?
They believe and trust me. I have only known such a short while and I know I am the darkness that people fear will come in the night, yet they care.
