Stone Guardian by Danielle Monsch FitzGerald Tour: Interview, Review, & Giveaway

Stone Guardian
by Danielle Monsch FitzGerald
Gryphons flying past Skyscrapers? Wizards battling it out in coffeehouses? Women riding motorcycles with large swords strapped to their backs? All normal sights since the Great Collision happened twenty-six years ago.
Well, not normal for everyone. Larissa Miller may have been born after the Great Collision, but as a history teacher who lives in the human-only city, she has never come into contact with any other race or species. That is, until one day she walks out of her apartment only to be attacked by a mob of Zombies, but then is saved by a Gargoyle.
Leader of the Gargoyles, Terak has been watching over the human woman for months because of a cryptic prophecy. Gargoyles trust no one outside their Clan, but something about this woman stirs every protective instinct within him. When he realizes the danger to her is real, he refuses to allow her to explore this new world without him at her side.
In the course of their investigation Terak becomes entranced by his little human. But when he discovers why Necromancers want her and the great reward that awaits him if he betrays her, he must choose between the welfare of his Clan and not only Larissa’s life, but the fate of this new Realm as well.

About the Author:

Born to the pothole ridden streets of Pittsburgh, PA, Danielle started writing in a time long ago, a time when there were not enough vampire stories to read and she had to write her own to fill the void. Yes, such a time of darkness did indeed exist.
Danielle writes stories full of fantastical goodness and plenty of action, but always with lots of romance (and a bit of woo-hoo!) mixed in. Vampires and Werewolves and Demons and Angels, Sword & Sorcery, Fairy Tales, Updated Mythologies and the like – if it’s out of the ordinary, it’s fair game for her stories.
When not writing, Danielle reads comic books and watches cartoons (though she says she reads manga and watches anime, because saying it in a different language makes all the difference.) She listens to music, plays D&D, follows XKCD, watches movies with the Rifftrax on, and is mom to two amazing little girls and wife to her favorite guy in the world.

Interview:

What inspired you to create a world with Gryphons, Wizards, Zombies, Gargoyle, and the Great Collision?

I am a great lover of fantasy, think Lord of the Rings or that type of world, just with a lot more magic. All these new races and creatures to play with. But the part of fantasy I don’t like is the whole pre-civilization setting. That has just never been my thing (I’m not a big camper, in case that comes as a surprise to anyone.)

So one day I was just turning it over in my head how I could have fantasy mixed with the modern world, and in a burst of inspiration I got the idea of the Great Collision. Once I had a reason I could have fantasy mixed with the modern world, the Entwined Realms series came together rather quickly.

What is your favorite part of the story, Stone Guardian?

The fact I could use a gargoyle as my paranormal hero. I’ve been wanting to do that for awhile, but I didn’t have the right vehicle to showcase a gargoyle in his full protective light.

Who is your favorite character?

I enjoy them all, but I do admit an especial love for Laire and Fallon, separately yes, but especially when they are interacting with each other. They play off each other so well.

What is your typical day like?

Don’t have one. I’m a mom of two young kids, so I work my writing and all the other daily chores around them.

What do you prefer paperback, hardcover, or ebooks?

While I love reading my favorite books in paper because I’m one of those people who likes to jump around to my favorite passages and reread them several times – and that is just easier to do in paper – for the most part I like ebooks. They are so handy, and I’ve been able to read a lot more .

My Review

Stone Guardian (Entwined Realms, #1)Stone Guardian by Danielle Monsch
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Twenty-six years ago, the unthinkable happened. Two different dimensions clashed causing what is currently known as The Great Collision. Earth’s human realm merged with a magical world that includes: gargoyles, gryphons, shapeshifters, wizards, zombies, vampires, and more.

Larissa Miller was born during the collision. She never knew what the Earth was like before or met her mother who died during child birth. She is an ordinary history teacher living in the human-only part of the city. For unknown reasons, the supernatural world is suddenly interested in Larissa.

Due to a prophecy, Terak, Leader of the Gargoyle, has been watching an unsuspecting human woman for months. Having no idea what makes her so special. Suddenly, on his watch, she is attacked by zombies, and he rescues her. Terak brings the woman to his home, exposing the clan to her human eyes. Now with some help they need to discover why the Necromancers are interested in Larissa.

This is my first gargoyle novel, and I really enjoyed it. Danielle Monsch wrote a wonderful novel that is packed with excitement. Stone Guardian is a well-written creative tale. The characters are well-defined and believable. The story is refreshing and original.

Stone Guardian is a successful first book in the Entwined Realms Series. I look forward to seeing what Danielle Monsch comes up with in the second book.
