Dark Heart of Magic (Black Blade #2) by Jennifer Estep Review

Dark Heart of Magic (Black Blade, #2)Dark Heart of Magic by Jennifer Estep
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lila Merriweather is selected to represent the Sinclair Family in the Tournament of Blades. Monsters are being found dead and tournament competitors are mysteriously getting hurt to suggest foul play is at work.

I loved Jennifer Estep’s Dark Heart of Magic, which takes place right after book one, Cold Burn of Magic. The story is imaginative, well written, and mysterious.

I really like Lila. Both of her parents are dead. She has been on her own for a long time. Understandably, she is afraid to open up to people because she does not want to be hurt. She is reluctant to get close to the Sinclair family. Not an easy task with friends like Devon and Felix. They are both supportive and caring. I like how Lila and Devon’s characters interact in the story. I also enjoyed finding out more about Lila’s family history.

The tree trolls sound cute. They were a creative and likable addition to the
story.

The plot was amazing. A lot is going on in the novel: monsters are turning up dead; competitors are mysteriously getting hurt; Victor is up to something evil; the tournament is full of close competition. The Black Blade Series is incredibly imaginative and unique. The story is full of action and suspense. There are numerous unexpected twists. I am anxiously awaiting the release of book three, Bright Blaze of Magic.
