Getting Lucky Number Seven by Cindi Madsen Review

Getting Lucky Number SevenGetting Lucky Number Seven by Cindi Madsen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Freshman chemistry nerd, Lyla Wilder, creates a “College Bucket List." She recruits her best friend, hockey player Beck Davenport, to help her with her quest.

Getting Lucky Number Seven was an inspirational and heartwarming book that I could not put down.

Lyla is a fun heroine. I love her nerdy science jokes. I respect her guts for perusing her list. I felt bad that her list was inspired by a jerk calling her fugly. She clearly has a lot to offer. Once she had her makeover and dressed more college appropriate things changed for her.

My heart went out to Beck and all he went through; the loss of his parents, the scandal, and his future being preplanned, it was a lot to handle. I’m glad he had a friend in Lyla that he could count on. It is understandable why he would separate his college life from his home life. I love that he felt responsible for Lyla and always looked out for her.

I like that Lyla and Beck truly valued each other’s friendship. Both are hesitant to peruse something with the other because they are uncertain if they were able to handle the loss of their friendship which they both valued.

I was glad Lyla lucked out by getting Whitney as a roommate. The two ended up going through a lot of similar situations and were great support for on another.

Both Lyla and Beck showed tremendous growth throughout this story. They discovered a lot about themselves and the other. Cindi Madsen’s character development is commendable.

I enjoyed the plot. Getting Lucky Number Seven is a feel-good story. It was a wonderful novel with some unexpected twists. I fell so in love with the characters. I would love to see a sequel. I just cannot get enough of them.
