Excerpt

Audray loved being the first-ever woman Director of the Underworld, but she preferred the title “Queen” even better. Jonas had begun calling her that and it became part of her persona almost immediately.
Maybe it is the way Jonas whispers it to me just before he takes me.
That word was something she would never tire of hearing, just like the sounds her paramour made as he pleasured her to distraction and beyond. And the best thing of all was that he did it out of love, not obligation. His need to please her was equal to her need to be ravished over and over again.
And worshiped as only a queen should be.
Jonas was still wearing his black leather vest, but was naked everywhere else that counted, sleeping like a baby. She tucked her back into the warmth of his chest, feeling tiny against him, and reveled at how safe and protected she felt. She’d never had such a big man, big everywhere, but especially big in the way his soul screamed for her. It took a lot to distract her from all the pleasures in the Underworld, but being in bed with Jonas outshone them all.
When they’d gotten back to her home in the human world, he’d barely caught the bike when she jumped off. He saved it, of course, cursing softly, before it could tip and fall into her blood red Maserati. Even hearing him curse gave her chills.
All afternoon she had been touching him as they flew past rows of vineyards and redwood trees on their way home, her breasts pressed against the back of his thick torso. Her cheek rested in the place she smelled his maleness the strongest: at the back of his neck, just under his hairline. She watched the light brown tendrils of his shoulder length hair dusted with gray, catch fire in the late afternoon sun, coaxing her to reach down and squeeze his package, making him swerve the bike. But he was laughing, and she felt they didn’t have a care in the whole world.
She had thought she would enjoy the powerful Directorship more. Jonas had been an unexpected distraction. Ever since their explosive first meeting, Audray felt her whole world had changed.

Author Bio

Sharon’s NYT and USA Today bestselling novels are almost-erotic Navy SEAL stories of the SEAL Brotherhood. Her characters follow a spicy road to redemption through passion and true love. This series continues with book 8, SEAL's Promise, which will release November 11, 2014. All of her SEAL Brotherhood Series are available in audio book. She has maintained an Amazon top 100 author status in Romantic Suspense for since the end of 2012.

Her Golden Vampires of Tuscany are not like any vamps you’ve read before, since they don’t have to go to ground, and can walk around in the full light of the sun. Honeymoon Bite, Book 1 of the Golden Vampires of Tuscany Series, has earned the Amazon designation of #1 Gothic Romance. It and Book 2 in the series, Mortal Bite are both available on audio as well.

Her Guardian Angels struggle with the human charges they are sent to save, often escaping their vanilla world of Heaven for the brief human one. You won’t find any of these beings in any Sunday school class.

Sharon lives in Sonoma County, California, with her husband and two Dobermans. A lifelong organic gardener, when she’s not writing, she’s getting verra verra dirty in the mud, or wandering Farmer’s Markets looking for new Heirloom varieties of vegetables and flowers.

Interview

Please welcome Underworld Queen author Sharon Hamilton to Diane’s Book Blog.

What is your favorite part of the story, Underworld Queen

In any of my books, I enjoy the first part when the couple is getting together. In this story, they got together briefly in the previous book, so they were already a couple. But something happens that forces them closer together. I love writing about the love story, the way the couple gets together and solves all their issues.

How long did it take you to write Underworld Queen?

I actually began writing this book over 2 years ago, but shelved it for some other work. I dusted it off, re-wrote 25% of it, and added another 50% or so of fresh material. But normally, 2 months to write, one month to polish and edit.

If you were stranded on a desert island which of your characters do you want by your side?

Hard to say. I fall in love with each of the heroes in each of the books, or I can’t write them. If the bad guy starts taking prominence, I know he’s demanding his own book. I truss him up and make him wait, deliciously!

If you could be best friends with one of your characters, who would it be?

There’s a little feisty character, cab-driver guardian angel Doris. We could get into some serious trouble together. I think I’d love Claire as my best friend. But I’d love to go shopping with Audray, the heroine in this book.

What inspired you to write your first book?

A tragic house fire in 2008 turned my career from real estate to fiction writing. I think we call them Life Twists.

What is your favorite book that you wrote?
Who or what inspired you to be a writer?

Diana Gabaldon because I learned the music and tapestry of writing about love and a truly hunky hero. Stephanie Meyer (Twilight) because she just sat down and did it, and she made me realize I could too.

What books have most influenced your life?
Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
What is your typical day like?

I like to write in the AM when I am the freshest. But I have to have quiet, so early AM or late at night are best. If’s I’m working on a deadline at the end, I work, rest for a couple of hours, work, then rest, and so forth, getting 4 or 5 “fresh mornings” out of one day that way. Really works for my creativity and energy level. Cannot maintain that all the time

How do you overcome writer’s block?

By writing every day, even a page. I do a lot of social media and blogging, which keeps me writing. I honestly think I write more than I talk.

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

The premise of the series is: Heaven isn’t 100% perfect by design. The Underworld isn’t 100% evil by accident. Audray is the bad girl from books 1 and 2 in this series. I had to let her have her HEA, and she has one heck of a hunk for a paramour.

What book are you reading now?
What do you prefer paperback, hardcover, or ebooks?

I prefer eBooks, because I’m a slow reader, so I like being able to change the background lighting, the type style and can always find something to read. On my Kindle, I can read 3 times faster than on a paperback.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

I’m an organic gardener. I’ve raised 4 children and a husband. Married to the same man for ever. I believe in true love, forgiveness, that good is stronger than evil, that doing the right thing isn’t situational, that our freedoms are bought and paid for by our wonderful men and women in uniform, and for the founding fathers who paid a heavy price so I could have my life today. I’m a believer but I don’t like anyone’s religion, including mine, shoved down anyone else’s throats. I value loyalty and laughter most in life. Third would be sex!
