Desert Wolf by Heather Long
My rating: 4 ½ of 5 Stars
Sutter Butte Pack Alpha, Cassius Lucera, is determined to change the culture of his pack. He will need the help of Sovvan Stark, Omega of Delta Crescent Pack, to achieve his goal that might put both their lives in jeopardy.
I really like Cassius. Yes, he is a lethal killer but not because he wants to be. He is a great leader who cares about the overall well-being of his pack. He is afraid to become close to anyone because trust does not come easy for him.
I love Sovvan’s insights and intelligence. She is a deep character that got you thinking. I appreciate that she does what she feels is right and is not influenced by her pack mates.
I like the setting of the story. It seems like most wolf shapeshifter novels take place in the woods and/or mountains. The desert was an interesting location. Heather Long did a great job describing the different obstacles a desert pack would face.
I really enjoyed the plot. It had a lot of depth, drama, and twist. This is actually the first book that I have read in the Wolves of Willow Bend series. I had no problem following the novels and enjoyed the characters. I am definitely interested in back tracking and reading the previous books to hear their stories. After reading the epilogue, I am also, intent in reading the next book in the series.
