The Touched (The Descendants Book 1) by Jennifer Weiser Review

The Touched (The Descendants Book 1)The Touched by Jennifer Weiser
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Carter Decker has hated Union City ever since they burned his mother at the stake for being Touched (gifted by the gods). He meets his fated soul mate, the daughter of the man who killed his mother, Arabella Penthallow. They are both Touched. They need to work together because of the impending war.

When I read the synopsis for The Touched, I was immediately intrigued. I am so glad I read this story. It was amazing.

Ara is a wonderful character. She has been hiding her true nature in a city that would have her killed for what she can do. She has been lied to her entire life and does not know whom she can trust. She has multiple boys who are interested in her, but she understandably questions their motives and her feelings. Not to mention she really has no clue that she is desirable.

I really liked Carter. In the eyes of the press, he is the ultimate party/bad boy. He is tormented by his mother’s murder and father’s health. There is so much more to him than most people know. He has a lot of depth and charm.

Jennifer Weiser does an amazing job with the plot. It is very original and in depth. There are lots of twists, great foreshadowing, and it is continually exciting. I could not put this novel down. It has a cliff hanger ending. I am chomping at the bit for the next book to see what happens. I cannot wait. This is a great story, whether you are an adult like myself or a young adult and enjoy dystopian settings.
